If you know any mystery shopping

Hey Nick, don't know if this qualifies as "on a shoestring," but check out the Measure Consumer Perspectives site. Even if you do not purchase through them, make sure to note everything included in the package. I have heard of others finding "cheaper" deals on the internet only to find they were just buying the actual DVR with none of the accessories. Purchasing all of the accessories individually then cost them more. Another FYI, MCP set up the deal in order to promote video shopping and they are not really in the retail sales business. Because of that there are no returns because you change your mind. There is a warranty with the unit and that has to be addressed through the manufacturer.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

In New Jersey you can find any number of shops posted 6 times a day for cell phones and banks and auto dealers you can only work for once a year and other things I do not shop because the pay is so low and amount to a scam. Some shops will give you $10, you must give them a report and buy something. They sell stuff that cost way more than $10 and you can not return it.
Yes, they sometimes need help.

Lisa,

What seems easy to someone with an advanced intellect such as yours may seem difficult to others. They may have never used a forum before this site. They may not understand basic netiquette. They may have a black and white television set.

Answering newbie questions by directing them to the newbie section just seems like the kindest way to respond.

I don't think they need to be told to click on "Mystery Shopping Company Discussion" to discuss MSC's, and yet some will post those questions elsewhere anyway.

And of course, some will be trolls and some will be simply unhelpable. (okay, I made that word up)

Thanks, I think. Actually I had not had a ton of experience with forums myself until MSF. There were things that took me a while to figure out, but many are clear. I like your new word and it certainly is accurate. Also agreeing with the whole troll situation. Some people have nothing better to dosmiling smiley

They may con you into buying them an iPhone because they say they need a phone with a bigger screen. Then you find out later it's so they can attach more post-it notes to the phone. (True story. Not going to tell who it is, except to say that IT WAS MY HUSBAND.)

Go ahead, ask me to violate an ICA. I won't do it, and the MSCs that read the board will know not to hire you, since you can't be trusted.

Try to sign out. The only way I've found is to go to the url on the page I'm on and strip out everything after the .com and hit enter. That will take you to the home page where you can sign out. Every other forum I've ever been on had a very obvious way to get to the home page and/or a log off button. I don't sign out very often but I don't like to leave any pages open on my computer if I have kids visiting so I like to log out of everything and I had a heck of a time trying to figure out how to do it the first time I wanted to.

Took me awhile to figure things out mostly because I'm on other forums that are a totally different layout.

There's also no one-click link to get to your profile. I've been wanting to add a signature line like some of you have but haven't felt like taking the time to figure out how to do that. Other places I've been there was a row of options at the top of each page leading you to your profile, your messages, and various other generic options.

So, no, I don't consider this a very user-friendly site, but I am not complaining. It doesn't take THAT much effort to figure things out, and once you've figured them out, it's not that hard to get around. But it can be a bit weird coming here if someone has been on other boards that had all the basic links displayed on every page.

Answering an introductory post with a few tips on using the forum would help a lot of new shoppers. I think I might be typical of many older shoppers. I don't have formal technical training and I'm not super comfortable with what I see as the "new world". Those of us who got through school BC (before computers) and are self taught have knowledge gaps. We fight constantly to keep up, much less get ahead.

I would have made good use of tips on using the forum when I started here. I blundered my way around, but that's time that could have been better spent if someone had provided a little general guidance in the beginning. Perhaps most won't need the information, but they can always skim over it and move on.

Clicking on Mystery Shop Forum, in the blue banner at the top of every page, will return you to the home page. There you can sign out, or go to your profile. Two clickssmiling smiley
LOL. Two clicks now that I know to do it! I never would have thought of clicking that blue banner to get to the home page.

My other forums are social groups only -- this is my only Mystery Shopping forum. I've been on forums for animals before (one where I had an epileptic dog) and other groups for various reasons. This is the first forum I've been on to help me make money!

I've found that on most web sites (of any kind), if you click on the name of the site, it brings you to the home screen. Works on many retail sites as well as boards like this one.

Duh..... LOL. Forgot that little trick. Works that way on all the other forums I've been on but never occurred to me to try it here. I still feel like I'm in a foreign country here.

Actually, your signature looks like it's part of the post. It might be clearer to edit your signature to include your name and your signature line below it.
