Got 4 more easy shift jobs yesterday. That brings the week total to $105.

I found a 60 day free trial for BJ's. Applied to 2 shops through MSC yesterday and got both of them ,$13 each, both are at BJ's. smiling smiley

Goal next week is $200. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
vivid,
Relax about going on the wait list. Many kinds of shops with good pay are snapped up the moment they hit the job board or the email goes out. for some hotel shops, you had better be at the computer, with the sound turned up, so that you can hear the announcement email plop into your in box. Otherwise, you will not respond fast enough to get them. LESSON: be signed up with enough MSCs to maximize your harvest of shops; you will not get them all. And, BTW, about once a month I actually do get a hotel shop after going on the "notify me if this becomes available again." Finally, remember that you are working towards being one of the shoppers who get the early email invitations for shops that may never make it to the job boards or to the general email list of that scheduler/MSC. This takes time and you will find that you are wasting energy if you are impatient or irritated by not getting specific assignments. You are still at the "baby-steps" part of this work of learning to run!

Having done a Bestmark overnight casino shop, I would suggest more time under your belt. These are labor extensive shops. You will spend hours on the report because it is highly detailed. You are under pressure because if they reject your report for some reason, your not reimbursed. My reimbursement on that shop was over $500. They pack so much into the report you don't have time to enjoy yourslf, you work your butt off just getting all eight checks in during the time allotted. My guests did not enjoy having to run around meeting deadlines. They didn't care that their hotel expense and food was being covered by the shop. They found it annoying. You CAN'T do these shops solo. Casinos have cameras everywhere and they will pull tapes to verify your report. They can prove if you were at the poker table and whether or not you arrived alone. Same with the slots, etc.

All that being said would I do it again? I would. I would do the overnight stay again. Only take one guest and make sure that they understand we will be working for at least five hours. Don't take dead weight.. You will need their help remembering details. We would then have from about 10-11 pm to whenever to gamble for fun.

Had I done this my first month of shopping I doubt I'd still be here.
Wow, Thank you both for the replies! I think I could do the casino shop. My girlfriend and I frequent the casino by me quite often smiling smiley I have been playing blackjack for close to 5 years now and I know my way around the place, lol. Wales, I keep signing up so don't worry! I am a very driven but also a very impatient person.

I know I won't get all the shops and I know I'm new. I can tell already that I can do this full time. I love it, I don't know what is, but I know it's right for me smiling smiley
Would anyone recommend getting MSPA certified??
Nope Just do a search on MSPA and read, read, read.

Experience and the guidance that you will get here, for free, will more than cover all of what you need.

Driven is good but impatient is not. Try waiting in a bank lobby for 15, 30, 45 minutes to speak to banker. If you leave w/out help, u won't get paid at all. New car shops & new homes can take forever.
I actually do recommend getting MSPA certified. I got my MSPA silver and gold certifications in 2003. I get offers pretty regularly from MSCs who state in the emails that they are reaching out to gold and silver certified shoppers first. So whatever is left over gets offered to non-certified shoppers. That's not to say that there are many, many shoppers in here who have proven themselves over time and are great shoppers. They are doing quite well without having ever gotten certified. But why not go ahead and do it? You can write it off as a business expense. I am also going to the IMSC conference in Indiana in May, and they are offering video shopping training at no additional charge. I am really excited about that!
You would do better to go to the IMSC conference in Indiana, where they have new shopper certifications included in the 2 day program PLUS free video training on day 3.

Video training is where you will make money!

See you in Indiana. I will be teaching 2 sessions; one on jump-starting a career as a new shopper and one on managing unique follow-up information and aliases for high paying shops like apartments, new homes, assisted living, etc. There will also be a whole session on managing back-stories fir long-interaction shops like those I have mentioned.

Yes Walesmaven, I wrote that I am going to the conference in Indiana and that video training is included (in my post right above yours).
Goals, You guys are so motivational! Video shopping intrigues me smiling smiley
I tried video shopping but the video companies dont want people with real jobs. I guess they never heard of working at night & working on weekends.
Are you saying your regular (I'm not about to say real) job is at night or on weekends or questioning video companies needing shoppers during business hours? When video shoppers are needed is dependent on the industry. The vast majority of video is still in industries either not open evenings and weekends, such as doctors and dentists, or those with commissioned salespeople. Clients want us shopping at times which tend to have less traffic which is also a benefit to us. There have been some retail and fast food clients coming on board over the last couple of years. As that picks up so will the flexibility.

MSNinja,
Most video clients do not permit night or weekend shops. Model homes are closed at night, as are apartment leasing offices. Weekends are prime time for commissioned sales agents at new homes, car dealerships and apartment office, so the client does not want shoppers taking up those hours when sales are most likely to happen. Assisted living sales managers do not work at night or on weekends, for the most part. Those categories account for about 90 percent of the video shops, by fees paid, at this time. Shop in these areas run from 20 minutes (a very short apartment shop!) to 4-5 hours (full function resort community for seniors).

So, it is the client situation, not the video MDCs that drive the need for weekday, daylight shoppers in those industries.

A whole different breed of very short, lower paid video shops are growing in retail and parking situations (typically in one party consent states), when off-peak hours for shops are needed to capture evening worker shifts. Those tend to use different equipment than is used for the long format interactions mentioned above and accept shoppers who do not own their own equipment, or may permit the use of less expensive equipment or even a Smartphone. So, keep looking.

In my area you do not have to be a member to go to the pharmacy in the warehouse stores. Walk in go to pharmacy and ask about price of some brand name drug and you have access. I also have found online free one day access coupons. Using these suggestions you can try a few of the shops and from there see if it would be profitable to have membership.
I do shops at BJs all of the time that do not require a purchase and I do not have a current membership. It's Sam's Club that always asks for your card at the door. BJs never does.
I ended up getting the year membership at BJ's for $25 on Groupon.

My girlfriend and I just moved and she's been bugging me to get a card there anyway lol. I set up 2 shops and got approved, so there is my membership fee back +$5.

I work for myself so MS is great for me. Shoot weddings every other weekend and besides that I'm free!
vivid, you said your goal is $1,000 a week, not a month, do I have this right? How many shoppers here exceed $1,000 a week because Money and Forbes had articles about students and advanced shoppers making $18,000 a year? If your shooting for $1,000 a week, good for you and please keep up your posts because their fun!
Yep! 1k a week smiling smiley. Just from the few apps I use I made $125 this week and that was with no shops. I could have made $200 from apps alone but I had some photo jobs to do.

Is 1k a week a long shot? Yes it is. Will I try my hardest to try and reach that? You know it

I sleep 4 hrs a day and the other 20 are spent signing up for MSC's, emailing schedulers and doing jobs from the apps I use. I'm going to BJ's in 2 hrs to do my first shop there !

In order to do a very high volume in fees you will need to become adept at long interaction (highly paid) shops that are also video. So, investing in that should include signing up for the May IMSC conference in Indiana and staying for the free video training. The networking with shoppers and schedulers and MSC staff at the conference will make back the cost of the conference and travel and give you a support network beyond the forums.

The second thing that you will need to anticipate is significant future travel to reach high fee shops. When you have a 30 minute to 3 hour interaction with a sales agent, that is a "one and done." In other words, because that makes you memorable, you will never shop any location where that agent is present, ever, again. So, as you exhaust the list of car dealers and new home communities and assisted living sites within a day trip of your home base, you will find yourself needing to plan routes that will have you on the road from 2 nights to several weeks. (How to do that is a graduate course in MS in itself. Hang out with the route shoppers in the bar at night at the conference and you will learn a lot!)

I would love to do video stuff. In addition to be a professional photographer I also do video! Is it undercover video?

P.S
I am trying to talk the girlfriend into taking a road trip to Indiana winking smiley

Of course it is undercover video. None of your current equipment is likely to be useful!

DO NOT buy any equipment for MS video shopping until you have gotten more experience with apartment and new home shops, as those are the starting points most likely to provide video opportunities near you. PA is a 2-party consent state for recordings (PLEASE see the thread at New Mystery Shoppers and read about this.) So there will not be many retail video assignments there. Also, do a forum search on "video" for the last 12 months and read, read, read. You will soon see why this is a specialized area of MS. You MUST had experience in the types of shops doing them in the traditional manner (written report only) before you will really be prepared to do them as video. When a shop is recorded, the shopper's statements are on the record, so that is not time to be stumbling through a type of shop that is new to you, lol.

I saw a casino with a payout for $60.00 and the $180 was to be used for gambling expenses. You can only keep a certain amount of winnings "If you hit a $50,000 Jackpot" or "kicked some booty on black-jack your limit is $500 and you got to turn in the rest back to the casino. What would you do if you hit a big slot machine win for $250k while doing a shop?

Casino Shops sound fun because I enjoy playing cards and slot machines. I noticed your area must pay more than my region because the payouts for evaluation eight people are closer to $100 than $180 and they drop down toward's $30 quickly. Which area offer's $180 for a overnight shop, I've looked for those shops and only find $30-$60 to spend the day evaluating the hotel-gambling areas. If they paid more I would jump at the chance to stay there and enjoy evaluating their performance.
Could you provide links to those articles. I'm curious where they came up with that number. It also makes no sense to group together two such disparate groups, students and advanced shoppers.

I would keep the 250k and reschedule the shop. No way am I handing that back to the casino. Maybe I would feel differently if they gave me $180 UP FRONT. In that case, I would have used THEIR money to make the winnings. If they only reimburse me afterwards (and only if I do the shop perfectly) I am using my OWN money, and the winnings are mine. Anybody see this differently?

I know you are pro-IMSC and anti-MSPA but I say why not do both. Double the networking opportunities, double the education, double the tax write-offs, double the pleasure.
Fine, but only IMSC has free video training and certification.
