Tired of "Desperate! Please help!" emails?

Maybe I'm just in a sour mood at the moment, but I just wanted to vent about all the "Desperate! Please help!" emails....

It seems like toward the end of every month we are deluged with messages from schedulers with a subject like this. They beg you to take a shop in the middle of nowhere (the convenient ones are of course easy to schedule) for the same piddling fee, or if you're lucky, the scheduler will offer a "bonus!" which is usually just a few dollars. The "I'm in serious danger of missing my deadline!" plea is common too.

I know the schedulers are just doing their jobs, but really, why should we care? Would I get any sympathy if I told a scheduler "I'm desperate" to make my mortgage this month? Or, that "I'm in serious danger of not making my car payment?"

If the MSC is truly "desperate" then that should be reflected in the fee, not the plea.

OK, I've said my piece. Thanks for indulging me....

Yep!

Them: Help me! I'm desperate!
me: I can't do that for 6.00, but I can do it for 11.00
Them: We aren't offering incentives at this time!

Silver certified, I shop in Cities in NM and TX that no one has ever heard of.
Whenever I get those type of emails I ask for a bonus. I have even seen those type of emails in which they specify that they do not have any bonus money. They must realize that this is a business for us and we do not do charity. If nobody takes it at the regular pay then evidently it is worth more than they are offering. If it is that critical they will pay a reasonable amount to get it done.

I won't tell anyone that they should care, but I do often care just because I am sensitive (sometimes overly so) when someone appears to be in trouble. Notwithstanding that, this is a business.

Many schedulers clearly don't care about me or my financial situation or requirements. That makes it much easier for me not to care. However, some schedulers do care. I care more about them and am more willing to help them--while keeping my own needs in mind.
I got an email yesterday offering "4 Hero Citations." LMAO. Do they think we're morons?
Yeah, if a scheduler is screaming about how desperate they are, but don't offer a bonus, I lose a lot of respect for them. You can't be that desperate if you expect us to help out of some sense of goodwill. The whole reason the shops haven't been filled is because we're waiting on bonuses!

Yes.
I got hit with one of those from not sure if I can mention the company name, but still haven't gotten paid for it!
I consider those emails an "invitation to ask for a bonus" and if they don't offer one, I would only help them out if I was going right by the place, which means it's one of the half dozen local shops -- and usually I've already done them before they got desperate.

When I get those "personal", but we all know are mass emails, I get annoyed. If it is with a company I enjoy working with, I will reply or tell them on the phone that since this ASAP, I will have to rearrange my schedule to accomodate them and I would be happy to do it for "x" amount. Sometimes they take it, sometimes they don't. Either way is fine with me. Without sounding snarky, and I apply this in all areas of my life, someone else's emergency, lack of planning, or being so chincey in payment that they are now in a bind does not create the slightest bit of urgency for me. Like my set granddaddy said (I have to say that since I have quoted him before), "Your slow planning is not going to make me rush to help." I am not saying schedulers or companies or slow, but it seems that the trend is to offer jobs at such a low pay and hold onto that fee with white knuckles that they end up doing 9-1-1 calls all day until they find someone who will only do it for a considerably larger amount than what the shop was offered for. You would think if they were more reasonable from the beginning, everyone would win. More shoppers would apply, the scheduler would not be pulling their hair out at the end of the month, and ultimately, the company would not have to pay out the nose to satisfy their clients.
Today I got the urgent e-mail that all should aspire to be. We really need your help and are offering double the feesmiling smiley

I get bombarded with those Please Help!!!!! emails several times a day. They add more exclamation points every day yet, when I look at the fee, there's no increase.

Was the fee $5.00 or less? I love those when they say they are doubling the fee, but even doubled, the fee is still crappola.

I was gonna quote Phoebe's post & say the same thing!

I think some of them do think we're morons, unfortunately. Not all, definitely; but some.

I got a few emails yesterday that sounded desperate.

200 miles away from me and it paid $10

Wow! tongue sticking out smiley
Not hardly. A series of 4 shops originally posted at $80, all in town, no travel.

My pet peeve is when I get the EXACT same email x10. Yuck! Spamming doesn't lead me to think positively about a company...
LOL..I got the same one again today and I already emailed the scheduler that I live hundreds of miles away..guess they don't read our emails, huh?

Awesome! I thought you were making a joke in the original post. LOL
One of mine keeps sending me urgent emails to do a shop in Illinois. I don't think I get anything else from that company. (Can't recall who it was now.)

Jschilz, I wondered why you were asking that and now it makes perfect sensesmiling smiley

I helped them out and went out of my way and two month later I needed to perform that same location shop but she said that I must wait another month due to rotation requirements. So because I helped her out, I was not able to do the shop on the date that I needed. That pissed me off really bad so I am very selective in helping these guys out.
I would be upset, too. I understand MSCs often don't have control over rotation but sometimes they do. I would be much less upset if my scheduler at least told me she would check to see whether rotation could be waived OR try to find another way to show that she did remember and appreciate my help.
if they want it done badly enough they always seem to be "able" to make exceptions....
Saying you are "desperate" doesn't mean a scheduler actually is, just as announcing a shop as "easy" and "fun" doesn't mean it is. Talk is cheap. A scheduler who is "desperate" but not considering bonus money or waiving any rotations or requirements doesn't sound too desperate to me.

My old Dad used to say Money Talks. Bull**** Walks.
That is exactly what they think because every day someone takes those shops without a bonus. Just look art what Ritter pays.

I see more and more of such e-mails. They also seem to arrive early in the month. Perhaps because economy is improving, people are finding higher pay jobs. In our area even Walmart has trouble staffing their registers.
If the number of shoppers is declining, then the fees should start going up.
