Market Force's new job board: Love it, hate it, or whatever?

I kind of like it. For some reason, the old site didn't want to pull up surrounding cities correctly. Maybe it was user error, but I'd have to plug in a 30 mile radius instead of 10 or 20 and get stuck sorting through towns that were nowhere near me. I like the fact that now, it does not automatically bombard me with a bunch of shops outside of my area. The only drawback is that I'd like to keep the search-to-date at May, not a week out every time I check for available shops.

It is so interesting why some of us love and hate the same features. I have no interest in seeing shops weeks out since they are fillers and like seeing a large radius to fit into routes.

As part of the new roll out, did they ask for feedback? If so, now would be a great time for shoppers to express their feelings. You never know, but they might listen and make some changes.

MsJudi: Make a couple of changes before you search. Change the To date to however far in the future you want to look. There is a dropdown box to change the number of jobs per page. You can increase it to up to 100. Then do the search. These changes will only take you seconds.

I personally like the new format because it give me more control over what I can see. Because of that it is faster and I do not have to scroll through pages of shops that I do not care about.

Thanks, but I've done all that. It just takes forever to go through the shops. I just don't like it. I've changed the date and added 100 shops on the drop down list, but it's too cumbersome. If I go to May I'm looking at over 1000 shops and that's with eliminating the ones I don't do, like the airport shops....too much...too time consuming. I don't want to just search 10 miles from my locale b/c I travel to shop. I'll deal with it, but I don't like it.

The only thing I can't stand is not having the list sorted on city anymore. Sorting on street number is NOT acceptable, and certainly not helpful.

I don't quite get it yet. When I search for "all" I get about 3 shops, but when I search for individual jobs I get a boatload. For the biggest MSC they sure do have a lousy site.

I think it has some better elements to it, but the default setting is almost useless for me. I have to make a manual search each time.

Happily shopping Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts and Connecticut
Several times in the last week I have done a 200 mile search and pulled up NOTHING. That never happens with MarketForce. I hope it is just temporary.

BTW - Looking at the new SPAR Independent Contrator portal, I wish they had acquired Marketforce Purple Portal's website as well. Never though I would say this, but I miss that old Grey website. Just today I got some weird SPAR e-mail with spreadsheets showing me all of the contractors in my area and what Big Box stores they were doing for a Helium based assignment. WHAT??? No MSC / Fixture Set up company I have worked for has ever sent out spreadsheets with all of their contractors first & last names on them, besides why would I care who is doing this same project at Big Box Mart over in Arkansas? I am 400 miles away.

I have been offered 4 jobs this weekend by the company that were supposedly on the boards...but were not there when I searched for them. I'm not getting all the jobs that I did on the old board.
Yup. I agree. I suppose I will eventually get used to it.

I hate how the "address" search now filters by street name instead of city.

Karen,

Is it a particular type of job that's missing, or does it seem to be random?
Either the site is off, or MF lost a lot of clients. I hardly see any shops now. I searched fast food for 6 weeks and only saw 2.

^--- THIS! Good Lord, this. SO annoying to go through a list sorted like that.

I contacted Marketforce regarding the address filter feature. I was told that they will be changing it back to the way it used to be (filtering by city name instead of street number) in a future website update. They didn't mention how long it would be, but it will be changed back. :-)
I just came from there and saw city names. I guess I've missed all the action.

The city names are there, but if you do a search that includes more than one city, and then you click on "address," it used to group the cities together in alphabetical order. That was helpful if there are several cities. Now if you click "address," it filters by the street number, so the cities are no longer grouped together. If you are just searching within one city, it wouldn't effect you, but if you like to search a distance that includes numerous cities, being able to group them by city is very helpful.

I was very glad to hear they will be changing it back. I don't do many shops for them, but sometimes I am going to or passing through other cities and pick up shops there.

I am not a fan.... When I select a job to do, the job selection screen defaults back to the one week window and I have to reset the date again and again.

I live in a smaller area and there are not many jobs available, so I am usually booking a few weeks out.

That's my least favorite thing about it too.
i find that if i press save once i change the date, it will stay that way when i search the other categories. the same goes for the number of listings per page. i only need to do 100 and set the date far out the first time and press save before i search any other categories.

True, for the search part. But if you actually select and schedule a shop, it defaults back to the one week date search and you have to back in and search farther out to schedule additional shops that are farther out than one week. It's a pain to have to do that after each shop you schedule.
