Charging me to deposit my pay

Hi,

I signed up with ACE and their only way of payment is Pay Quicker or direct deposit no other option. With both payment and only options they charge you $1.00 to deposit your pay money into either account. Does anyone have experience with this? What is up with charging the $1.00?

I know it is illegal (PayPal Policy) when a company charges when you deposit into PayPal - I read their guidelines and they (PayPal) will eliminate those charging a fee. However, never heard of charging to get your pay. Anyone have any insight?

Thanks bunches,

I only average 2 to 3 shops with ACE over the course of a year, but I don't think Pay Quicker charges a $1.00 to transfer funds to my checking account.
I'm more surprised they are offering a direct deposit option. When they went to PayQuicker it was the only option. I also don't know about it being illegal. Companies get charged to send funds through PayPal and some will pass along the fee to shoppers who opt for that payment method when there are other choices.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

I didn't realize that ACE now offers direct deposit. Is the payment made to PayQuicker and then you can have it deposited to your account? You should probably call ACE and ask about the $1 charge - I thought PayQuicker had waived all fees for ACE shoppers.

As far as PayPal policy, it is NOT illegal for a mystery shopping company to charge you a PayPal fee when they pay you with PayPal, and a couple of mystery shopping companies do charge a fee. The only one I can think of offhand is CORI (that's why I use direct deposit with them; direct deposit is free, PayPal costs the shopper money). It is against PayPal's terms and conditions for a SELLER to charge the BUYER a PayPal fee when a purchase is being made. But when PayPal is used to make personal payments, such as the payment a MSC makes to a shopper, the payer is allowed to charge a fee. Here's PayPal's fee statement:

"Fees are based on whether you are making a Purchase Payment or a Personal Payment.

For Purchase Payments, the recipient of the payment will always pay the fee.

For Personal Payments, the following applies:

The fee depends on the Payment Method you use.
The fee is paid by either the sender or recipient, not both.
The sender of the payment determines who pays the fee at the time the sender makes the payment.

What is the difference between a purchase payment and a personal payment? This important distinction will determine whether or not it is against the rules to charge the buyer the paypal fees. The ToS clearly state that the fees of a PURCHASE PAYMENT must be paid by the recipient, however, for a PERSONAL PAYMENT the fees can be paid by either party with the sender choosing who pays the fees."
Sounds like some MSC are trying to make money on already low fees. One MSC already mentioned here does charge a 3% fee to pay you thru Paypal
Something to keep in mind, CORI and Second to None both pass along the 3% PayPal fee, but the shopper is told up front and they offer direct deposit as a free option. Neither are charging and pocketing the fee, they just choose not to absorb it themselves. The only issue I've had is finding out after receiving a payment. It has happened twice. One company made it good, the other did not.

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

Good morning,

Just went to check the site and lo and behold, I couldn't find the information I read the first time! Oh well, either I was wrong (strong possibility) or it has been edited.

Have a nice day!

CORI charges the Paypal fee to Canadians and there is no direct deposit option. That irks me.

Are you in Canada? Is that why there is no direct deposit available to you? If yes, would you be able to open an account with a US bank and and use online banking (transfer funds to your Canadian bank and pay bills from it)?
Yes, I am in Canada and the only option here is Paypal for Cori. I suppose I could open up a US bank account, but for the 50 cents or whatever per transaction, I am not sure it is worth it. Cori is the only company that I am having that problem with. Thanks for the idea though!

I received payment for my first ACE shop. I had to open up a PayQuicker account. No fees. I recieved my payment. No fees. I set up direct deposit and got my payment. No fees.
