Maybe she was scamming us since none of the numbers add upwinking smiley

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
I don't think she is scamming us. I think the inability to add and the ability to be taken in by the scam might be sadly related, though.
My sister-in-law is a bank teller and she says they see at least one of these scam checks every single day at the branch she works in (and this is in a small town in Ohio). That bank has a set script that they read to the folks who bring them in. Basically, it tells them that these checks are likely to be a scam, don't cash them unless they were sent from someone you personally know, proceed with caution, blah blah blah. She said what's sad is that even with the warning over 90% of people still insist on going through with the transaction and then get mad at the bank when they find out they were had.
They should require the customer to sign a statement acknowledging the message and make them write "I agree that if this check is found to be fraudulent that I will reimburse the bank out of my own pocket every penny that was advanced to me."

That might give a few of them pause. We are so conditioned by credit card policies to think that we don't have to lose money, of the loss is limited to $50, if we are fraud victims and that's just not true in these scam situations involving checks.

I pray it does not occur that the last thing I did before I died was vacuum the house or eat broccoli.
