I feel so stupid! Easy test & I can't pass!!!

Hey!! So I am gradually adding companies and slowly building up my experience. I just started adding CORI and am trying to qualify for one of the big hardware places. I have done the training twice and keep failing!! I feel so ridiculous and am losing patience. Arghhhhh....thanks for letting me vent. Honestly don't have a problem taking tests but I know I am missing something and don't know what!!!

Yeah, I think I failed a Staples or Radio Shack one twice. I feel so silly

Evaluating and mailing packages since 1994. I am an undercover connoisseur of customer service, a master of disguise in the aisles, and a sworn enemy of subpar experiences. I blend in, observe, and report—because excellence should never be a mystery.
I've continually failed the Radio Shack ones. After about 5 tries I gave up. Not worth the $7 pay.

I took the test for A Closer Look the other day and discovered that me and logic do NOT get along!
If you were doing the blue gas stations for CORI, the test isn't as easy as it looks!
I passed the one you are talking about but could not pass the hot fudge sundae shop....finally emailed and said I needed help with the test....The contact asked that I send my answers...went back in and answered the questions the same as I had multiple times before....passed....go figure...
I apparently failed the Gfk "entrance exam" more than once, so now I'm automatically blacklisted from ever shopping with them. Only company that's done this to me.

So naturally, I call Gfk the "GFY" company, whenever a scheduler reaches out to me via a blind email. GFY meaning "Go....". You know the rest.

That happened a few weeks ago with a Second to None medicare test. Failed three times. Called help desk, Sent in the SAME answers I failed with, and got reply back that they were all correct, must have been a computer error they said. sure!
just blame it on the school system... lol... according to the no child left behind 80% of our schools are failing... which well they are...

seriously if it doesnt work the second time i copy all my answers down and email them in... they respond quickly...

its a real pain when they change the test... sigh...

as of now with CORI i only take mid level homedecores, car washes, and book stores... the rest is to much of a pain and usually dont get bonused...

Don't feel stupid. I have a real estate and insurance licenses and didn't pass the GFK test. Now I can't do any shops for them and I think they have a majority of the shops around me. At least you can take CORI tests over and over until you get them right.
I usually fail CORI tests at least 3 times. I just keep changing one answer at a time out of the couple I have doubts about, (usually there are most of them that I am sure of) until it becomes correct.

I do exactly that oo and it works very well since they have no limitations on the number of times you can take it.
As a retired school teacher I will assure you that many Mystery Shopping companies have very weak test designs. Companies need to objectively test their own measurement instruments.

Seems silly that the business is devoted to evaluating business practices but Mystery Shopping companies do not complete objective evaluations of their own practices.
i feel the tests period are dumb...

its like uh... read instructions... and do them... then get paid...

easy... and if they dont like it they can always tell you what was wrong, which they do anyway... and usually give you a chance to fix it...

then again CORI just puts red highlighter on the job and doesnt pay you... wheee!!

Tests serve a useful purpose and don't bother me a whit. However, I agree that the companies should take more care with them as a "glitch" which prevents someone from passing is a waste of everyone's time. I also don't care for the trick questions, but if it helps guarantee shoppers are reading and understanding instructions it also serves a purpose. Better to weed out a potential problem before shops than try to sort it out after the fact.

Lisa, I agree, but the tests often do not cover the most important stuff. It usually has at least one or two silly questions regarding minor points.
I agree that is often the case. But which are you more likely to miss when reading guidelinesgrinning smiley

Don't get me wrong, the same companies that expect us to be perfect can be hilarious when it comes to tests with outdated information, guidelines that have been copied and pasted so much they no longer resemble the shop and sending e-mails with available shop dates that are long gone!

I failed the GfK test for a big mortgage shop. I failed with the answers the scheduler gave me. LOL!

That's why I love the post from Eric that you quoted!

Some companies have easy tests but no idea how bad their forms are. I just did a pretzel shop and there were about 20 yes or no questions about upsells. If there were none then you would think to answer all the questions NO.

WRONG....... you just do not answer the questions at all. Why even have the NO option.
If someone could just convince the Mystery Shopping companies to obtain objective, outside reports. Seems MS companies must not believe in the product they are selling to others or they would make use of it for themselves.
After taking a test three times and I still do not pass. I will send my answers to my scheduler. Every time my scheduler would write back and say to take a closer look at question so-and-so, or give me all the correct answers. Most of the time, I read the question incorrectly or made the question too difficult.

I believe the scheduler is a "friend" to each and every shopper. The scheduler needs to schedule shops, so it is beneficial for them to see shoppers succeed.
Not to worry! I took a test 7 times when I first started mystery shopping.
in education we say, if everyone is failing the test, there might be something wrong with the test, not the test-takers. Just a thought.
You are absolutely correct. The testing materials need major revisions.

My spouse stopped doing shops for a company when the test could not be passed. An examination made it clear that the questions could easily be interpreted as either true or false because of weak wording. This happened after earning straight A's in Master level courses in a major university.
I just did a shop. Every other question on the report had questions with two parts...did the associate do/say A and B. The answers were either yes or no. Several questions could not be answered yes or no. The associate did A but not B. The associate did not say A but did say B...I've encountered this before and.I always explain in the narrative that the question cannot be answered yes or no. The MSCs seem to muddle on without my input!
Well if it says and then it can be answered yes or no. If and is the qualifier they need to do all parts in order to get a yes. If anything is missing then it gets a negative response.

There could be a list of a dozen things with an and--- if just one is missing, it is a no. You would just say in the narrative which one they missed.
At least you are smart enough to ask questions.
