SCAM SCAM SCAM!!! I just finished a REAL shop for the REAL Strategic Reflections and it pays $13.00. Raven, I wouldn't answer that email.

Mary Davis Nowell. Based close to Fort Worth. Shopping Interstate 20 east and west, Interstate 35 north and south.
Chances are excellent that ANY email that asking you to submit your information via email, and doesn't require you to sign up through the website is a scam. (This one is DEFINITELY a scam.) These scammers like to "borrow" the names of legitimate companies.
I do a lot of work for Strategic Reflections and I've never heard of this Scott Hiller guy. Sounds like a scam to me.

"Sounds like"??? There are enough clues here to be definitive about it! It IS a scam, no ifs, ands or buts.
I just called Strategic Reflections they are aware of this scam and have the FBI involved. I am sending a copy of this to themand they will handle it from there.

It is a scam. Put all materials in a zip lock bag to prevent smudging fingerprints and file a complaint at ftc.gov. If the FTC asks you for the materials, send them along. Don't be scammed. This is not how mystery shopping works.
Note the Inc. on the end of the name. I've done many assignments for Strategic Reflections....no problems. The red sign for a company that is scamming is #1 them sending you a check, #2 you having to send them back money through any means i.e. western union. There is another company that sends you a check and if you cash it, you have entered into a loan agreement with a third party. The mystery shopping company and the finance company are working together. I googled the name of the company on the check, went to the website and read the terms and agreement. Just make it a practice not to cash and checks! IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, guess what? It is!
You didn't get a new Rolls Royce? Mine is in the mail. ROFLMAO! Aren't you glad you belong to this forum?

I just got one from a Paul Nelson at Mystery Shoppers Inc that specifies the usual Walmart and Western Union. They of course will send me money up front and the Walmart shop I can do solo or as a couple for a $270 fee. Of course it is a scam.
My check was for $3,900.00...:p

Shopping Bama and parts of Georgia.
I'm still learning 24/7.

And you're worth every penny of it.

What a bunch of pikers. My check is for $20000 and it is certified. It now adorns my utility room wall along with three other Nigerian scams. It shows how rich I am by not even needing to cash these checks. I have four more open spaces on my wall for this wallpaper, Keep sending them.
I got a Fake Sinclair Scam Email. I wanted to forward it to them but I was too busy...

They (the scammers) just cut and paste the logos, website info., and ect. NO Mystery Shopping Company pays you $200 to walk into Walmart for a few minutes and then report back.

For the other poster (jules) who said she got the the nanny scam gram and then got the other scam letter about from the other bogus shopping company, it sounds like they are feeding off you, tag team style, meaning they are 2 scammers sharing your email in hopes they both get rich.

In my experience, any such email including the word "kindly" is a scam. Also "regards" and "hope to hear from you soonest". I used to work as a relay operator (where such fraud used to be extremely common until they finally implemented some preventative measures), and it got to the point where we could tell it was a fraud as soon as the words popped up on the screen just by the syntax.
In mystery shopping the quickest clues are:
1) payment in advance
2) the mere mention of Walmart and Western Union
3) offering work that has not sent you to a website to register before they offer you anything
4) shop fees of over $5 or $10 if you are not already an experienced mystery shopper.
Then of course there is the verbiage and most of them are copy/paste with different 'company' names and different solicitor names, but the 'kindly' and 'regards' and British spellings as most of these seem to be of Nigerian origin.
Fav Nigerian scam words:

"soonest"

"okay by you"

"dear"

"pay you USD dollars, or United States dollars" (nobody says that here)

"My name is Robert Smith and I lived in the Pennsylvania, United States of America" (nobody says that either)

A big clue - if they contact you and you have not signed up with them, they are probably not legit.
Walmart ones really crack me up. They have the worst pay and benefits for their full-time employees, but somebody is going to believe they will pay a mystery shopper $200 plus for a 20 minute store visit. It ain't rocket science folks.

I just became a mystery shopper for Strategic Reflections. Can anyone give me advise if this is a legitimate company?
Very legitimate company.

If you registered with the company on line at a site that looks like [stratreflections.shopmetrics.com] then you are signed up with a legitimate company.
'A Closer Look' is a legitimate MS company, however legitimate companies never solicite your personal information through an email. I wouldn't touch this one with a ten foot pole. You must be the one to initiate contact with a scheduler or to have authorized an agency like 'Prophet' to do so on your behalf.

Look at the return email address. A legitamte MSC will not use a gmail account. Or a hotmail account or a AOL account.
Not necessarily. I have been contacted by several legit companies that had new jobs in my area and wanted me to sign up. I took several of them, and it was all perfectly legit.

SpyGirl, there is some sharing of email addresses for potential shoppers done, especially through outside schedulers. Most of the time I will recognize the scheduler name. I also have company A, with whom I am signed up, sending me an email indicating that their colleague company B needs someone in my area and giving me a link to register with company B. An 'out of the blue' email, however, really needs to have someone take pause and proceed with caution.

There are a couple of companies I have worked with who do not have a website at all, but I got there through trustworthy referrals. I am nevertheless very comfortable with telling inexperienced shoppers that they should not provide their personal information via email but only on a legitimate website.

I have been paid more than $200 for a job but am very comfortable telling inexperienced shoppers that jobs offering that kind of money are scams.

I have been sent a gift card in advance to pay for a shop, but it was with a company I had worked with extensively and was to test card acceptance. Thus I am very comfortable telling inexperienced shoppers that you do not get paid up front for work.

The point of the exercise is to keep folks from being scammed by their wishful thinking. The occasional exceptions to the basic safety rules are there, but not for new shoppers.
