Census Work?

I like this whole thing of working for beer or fancy coffee money. Makes me still feel a bit engaged, but on my terms...MSing as we know, has its drawbacks. lol.
My grandma did census work when I was a kid. It was her side gig....my grandparents ran a busy dairy operation and she handled the accounting and other work....as a side gig, she took census assignments from the state govt.
She'd take me with her and we'd go on road trips to interview certain small businesses.
The trouble with being young is you don't know the best questions to ask and now she's long gone.
I am sure that's all changed, but I am curious about it...I believe it's also gig work by assignment? generalizing here of course. I think I'll look into it.
So if any of you have knowledge or experience with census related work, please share?
As a side note, four years ago, during the pandemic, I pulled the ripcord on my 35 year career.
Coincedentally or not, last night I checked my email. There it was, a message from my former director....four years of silence and now he pops up to say hello. It's never just a hello. Reminds me of a line from Michael Corleone in Godfather III.

Maybe you could look into contract work with a former employer that you enjoyed working with.

In my industry, early retirement is more common to see. Some of the workload is seasonal, where we need contractors every year to do the simpler tasks that we can't get to. The work is not difficult, but it's a learning curve to onboard. Some contractors are former employees who don't need the money, but come back for the engagement and comradely without the stress. It's not something an intern would get much value out of, but work that still has to get done.

Please don't feed the MSF trolls!

Feeding the MSF trolls bread or other human food is detrimental to their health and the environment. It can lead to malnutrition, disease, and behavioral problems in trolls, as well as water pollution and the spread of pests. Trolls are capable of finding their own food sources and don't require human assistance.
That's typical in my field too and probably the reason the boss is trying to get ahold of me.

I am just looking for new things. I will stumble across something.
Do what you love, life is too short smiling smiley

I’m unsure where you are located but there is a census bureau call center in Indiana that used to hire tons of people. They may do remote now too.

I worked in the 2000 census...in the office. Probably can't answer your questions.
