How overqualified are YOU?
In my family I'm the uneducated one--I have a B.A. Everyone else has at least one masters Degree if not a medical Degree. Overqualified? Not when I have let a receipt blow out the car window in a snowstorm or have to drive back to a location to take a front door photo.
Good question. I dunno. I have degrees, certificates, designations, and other trainings and actual experience that should make me worth a few gazillion bucks by now. I also have injury effects which often make me tired, goofy, and/or too sore and stiff to move. If education were all that mattered, I would be over-qualified. If life experience has any sway, I am fully qualified to do as much as I can, when I am able to do it. I am too old for many gigs now, but I have the ever-developing points of view of a person who lives and learns throughout life. I also live far away from many gigs and route possibilities. I am qualified to determine that this closeness to wide open spaces is incalculably more beneficial to me than proximity to multitudes of assignments. Am I qualified for anything?

It doesn't have to be a piece of paper...you could be a good chef enough so that others ask you to make it again and again, be able to install / repair HVAC systems, diagnose and repair autos, be able to build your own house and complete the wiring and plumbing, build your own desktop computer, network system, or security system. (I can do all these tasks too.)

Ah, but you are successful, right? I personally believe too many students got pushed by parents to obtain a degree. Which is why many are "crying in their milk" to have student debt erased. But I digress...
maverick, you seem to be very impressed with your quality certifications. What do they do for you? Do you have their acronyms listed in your email signature? Are they required for work? Do you get a pay increase for every letter?

HonnyBrown, well, I can't say I'm impressed...it was to show my current and future employers that I was serious about my field of Quality. With those certifications I moved from Quality Supervisor to Quality Program Manager. Only about 40% of the people who sat for the Quality Engineer Cert exam passed on the first try. Nope, I don't put them in my email signature anymore as I was fortunate enough to retire early. I learned fast as a child to come home, do my homework and I can go out and play. Once I started a career, I figured out that if I keep my manager happy, I get rewarded, move up, and retire early so I could go out and play. 
I am fairly certain that I do not have a superpower. That evokes images of capes, and tights, and expectations.
So I am just me. I am good at many things, but I always feel that I want to learn to be good at more things.

I have advanced degrees, but my superpower is I'm a hard worker with initiative. I try to always do a little more than is expected of me.
Equine24, that's awesome! Yep, being a hard worker and showing initiative almost always results in success. The resulting success enables someone to have the opportunity to enjoy an activity that pleases them...I dunno...like being around horses? So much better than sulking about, maybe with too much student loan debt, complaining about their lack of job prospects, expecting the world to meet their entitlement wants, right?

Shop-et-al, who are we to judge if you want to dress-up as your favorite superhero. You do you. And yes, I know I feel fortunate to have the "rectangle of knowledge", my smartphone, to return all sorts of information to me upon a simple query. Unfortunately, too many folks use this power to keep track of silly things like the Depp v. Heard trial, trade crypto, use Zillow to find out how much their EX's house is worth, or follow the Elon and AOC Twitter spat. (Okay, I'm guilty of reading that last one.)

So I will punish myself by continuing... And on another point... I do not have a favorite superhero. These creatures, except for the 1960's camp Batman show and its assorted antics and stars, irritate the hell out of me. Well, FlyLady is another exception. Her theme is spot on for many people. Of course, with all your engineering credentials you are undoubtedly a household engineer par excellence and will never need such as FlyLady. Good for you.
And talking of Zillow, have you never used Zillow to find a property that is serviced in order to complete a certain mystery shop? *wonders how many other members of this forum are guilty of the heinous crime of following shop guidelines and using Zillow and similar sites as preparation for mystery shop activities* For giggles, I have used the various sites to compare how each presents properties that I know by sight. Sometimes, the difference between the images is eye-popping.

No bucket. Apartment dweller here. No car washing or other car maintenance activities on premise.

I’m 10 years deep being a lead pipeline engineer who was part of the team that built multiple cross country crude oil pipelines, many metering facilities and tanks in the oil and gas industry. I’m now 1 of 4 engineers pioneering ESG certifications for a startup.
Considering that I am client-facing in my main career, meaning I can speak in basically any situation as needed, write to whatever I’m ask to do, able to adjust, etc., I strongly feel that I can definitely be overqualified for many shops. On the bright side, it also give me an advantage to increase my dollar per hour compared to the competition as in the past, I used today’s technologies to write programs to help automate report writing, especially for the long-winded narrative type of shops.

Tarantado, that's awesome! Any commentary from the field on the root cause of the current production/price issues? (BTW, I worked at a Exxon/Mobil refinery for a summer and I co-op'd in college at a nuclear power plant to help pay tuition.)

I'm glad I found mystery shopping. It allows me to put to use the things I learned in my six years of formal schooling. Things like ciphering and gazintas.

Multiple graduate degrees, all in the business and consumer psychology fields. I teach MBA students about service quality. Started mystery shopping in grad school, and it's been an informative side hobby ever since.
Everyone needs to be proud and impressed with their accomplishments. @Maverick1, it is awesome that you are more than comfortable and happy at this juncture. Retiring earlier than the norm is wonderful. I am overqualified but then that makes me qualified. LOL. I have a graduate degree and 3 certifications. All that I have worked hard for. My skill set includes extreme organization and excellent interpersonal skills. I am an extrovert and intuitive. I am tuned in during MS'ing and usually dont miss a trick. P.S. Please relay analysis for a 2 bucket car wash person.
Not over qualified, but I cannot lift more than 20 lbs because of a hernia, that cannot be fixed. I'm really limited to what I can do now. I spent 30 years in aerospace, but can't go back to it because of the hernia.
Madetoshop, 2 bucket car wash person you ask? Why it's quite simple. The typical layperson washes a car with a single bucket (soap and water). A real car enthusiast uses TWO buckets; one for soap and water, the other is plain water used to rinse the microfiber wash mitt, ensuring it's clean, BEFORE you return it to the soap and water bucket, then to your car finish. I'm and introvert, but I have learned to do some public speaking, mostly at my employers.
tgooberbutt, I like reading about behavioral finance. As a teacher, how do you feel about the top US leader about to proclaim that $10K in student loans could be erased away? I understand 50% of such loans are for GRADUATE degrees. Should folks who didn't go to graduate school, such as myself, be forced to pay this TAX? I'd appreciate your frank reply.

What tax are you paying for? It's forgiven debt. I am all for forgiving student debt. It frees up the finances for the debtor.
I had one student loan. I paid it in full. If I can do this, so can others.

If you went to college from the 90's and past, it's a different world. You cannot compare paying student loans from the 70's, 80's and 90's to today. Wages have dropped since than.
Okay johnb974, I will be my normal polite self here. But you are opening yourself up for a poke in the eye. You state it's "forgiven debt." Who do you think is going to wipe out this debt? The loan processor? Nope. The college you attended? Nope. Student loan cancellation isn’t a magic wand that makes those loans disappear—they’ll have to be paid for somehow. But the question is: By whom? If the government were to forgive $10,000 in federal student loans per borrower, it’ll add hundreds of billions of dollars to the national deficit—and sooner or later the general public will have to foot the bill. Is that fair? Sounds like you didn't successfully complete ECON 101.
