What are you doing today? (besides shopping)

Today was a fun day where I didn't go anywhere except the pool with DD. It was so cute to see her use the floaties and be more comfortable in the water.

Big 4th of July party with lots of prep.. I had vowed never again and here we go again. I know it will be a wonderful time for all. I'm going to make sure my Mom is comfortable with AC. It's been so hot.
What always irks me is how much left over food there is at such events. When they are initially planned by a close person I usually remind them to lower the quantity of food needed. And yet, at the end of the day, there is too much food left over.

It's no wonder there are so many obese people in the US. Meanwhile, our last trip to Italy I took notice and I could not find a single person significantly overweight. People walked and there were steps everywhere. The quality of food was much fresher and in smaller servings sizes. No electric carts in grocery stores. No handicapped street crossings.

Interesting about Italy... somewhere, it is disability pride month (or something like that)... I am pleased--but never proud-- that I live here, where I am free to live in such a way that I do all exercises and complete all activity/exercise minutes in such a way that I do not aggravate stenosis and osteoarthritis. This produces some interesting daily schedules!:-D Wishing everyone in the world freedom and opportunity to be themselves and do what they need to do.

Playing June's Journey again, from the beginning and with new-to-me game stuff. So far, nothing has insipred the wild, crazy, and otherwise explanatory tales of island life. I have not even one goat cart team or even one mole party. *Sigh* OTOH, I inadvertently produced a thought bubble for the Elegant Gazebo... There is hope... :-D

trying to dig up our family's recipe for three bean salad.
It will be my contribution to our holiday family picnic.
Trying to decide whether to also pick up some of those spiked seltzers.
I am told most taste too artificial.
Remembering my blessings.
Experiencing gratitude.
Looking into the history of the statue of liberty and wondering whether some have taken liberties with the Emma Lazarus poem... Noticably absent is any blueprint for how we now (and "they" then) should fund and otherwise manage the influx... yeah, i know. I should have waited for Minime or claabe to take up the topic...

There's always maintenance on the estate...

Drained and refilled the coolant on the sports car. Bought more off-road diesel, jumped on the tractor and cut the grass.
Laundry & packing for vacation...leaving this week for Adirondacks, Thousand Islands and decided on a bonus trip to Canada....we may add on Montreal....we're flexible like that. Mountain lakes are gorgeous this time of year....fortunate to have family with boats and cottage.
Enjoyed the most beautiful and most apt devotional today!

Church and a trip to Wal Mart (haven't been there in months). On to a little babysitting and getting ready for Kindergarten Camp that starts tomorrow. :0)
Guinea pig for beauty... this time, i rubbed the last bit of pesto into skin. I smell delicious and probably am suitable for the Mediterrabean diet, or an Ayurveduc feast, or something... basil and olive oil reputedly have helpful health benefits for some people...

More or less acclimated to my start-over with June's Journey. The good? I already have Art Supplies Store! Yay! "My" island must have the arts, the critters, the peeps, the natural features, and the happy conundrum of placing random items in some sort of context-- or, just featuring them wherever they happen to fit. Will I ever have enough purple diamonds which fund lots and lots of water? Will I buy all the revenue-producing buildings and... *gulp*... gild them? Various buildings look better, to my eye, in various states of "improvement" rather than in the ultimate, most fabulous, oh-so-glamorous, gilt. (So says the curmudgeon.) This is because if I again produce something that looks a bit like a street fair/food fest/everybody from everywhere comes as they are event, the buildings should just be in the background. Aaaaack! Enough. Gotta' clean something in the real world in order to be on task.

*eta* i now have 2 art supply stores. Conveniently, they are situated near Office Obstacles. What is the connection? Tunnels under the island? One supplies original art and the other supplies forgeries?

Working from home today and loving it. Beat the brutal hot weather and comfy all day.
The big summertime cleanup. Everything except the windows. Removing and cleaning windows will wait until after mosquito season. Fun moment: while dusting, found an oldie but goodie book which, I am 99.9% certain, was referenced in a recent cozy mystery that I recently read.

Ha ha ha. Loving it and still working from home. Today is much cooler. Very productive and I managed to do two loads of laundry.
personal shopping....need new clothes for a fancy wedding to which we've been invited....long distance from home so will be an extended trip....just need some new threads for the whole trip.
getting a haircut too....it's too long lol.
will be a long day.
Looked at the 28-day chair yoga challenge chart. Already do many of those but use the wall instead of a chair for some of the exercises. Should do that right now... !

Getting rid of stuff. It took me a while to get started but I am on a roll. I posted a bunch of stuff on our local Buy Nothing site and WOW. So many responses. I also put a two big boxes out curbside this AM and there's almost nothing left, LOL. Now I will go poolside and then hand wash some kitchen runner rugs.
What fun! I hope you had fun!

Church, Brunch, Washing and folding clothes, a nap, helping DD with flips at the kiddie gym, Dog walks, get ready for Kindergarten Camp in the morning
Silly news... Dunno what voice spyware is in the phone, but... it seems that phone does not know which voice is mine... listening to audiobooks provides a varity of voices.. and the various readers and voices could confuse the thing, eh? Better not ask what it thimks of what it hears!

Hmm. Have a new thing to study: wild critters. Have earned the stalking cougar decoration in June's Journey, which shows the big cat out on a limb. Needed to research whether cougars climb trees or not. Cougars and other big cats climb trees to escape, to spy, and/or to rest. Good to know. But there is this burning question: is "my" game critter spying, stalking, being stalked/escaping, and/or resting?! Really should rewatch Wild Kingdom and learn more about critters...

Evacuated and recharged a mini split air conditioner. Pressure tested with nitrogen to look for leaks. Evacuated with vacuum pump to 270 micron. Back-filled with nitrogen and pulled vacuum (3X) to ensure all moisture is removed (prevents acids from forming inside the closed system). Held vacuum for at least 30 mins to ensure no leaks. Used scale to precisely release 2lbs and 14.7oz of refrigerant back into the system. Run to confirm proper operation. Total procedure time was about 5 hours including preparation and clean-up.

Knowing how to perform this procedure yourself...PRICELESS!
You will not want to know that the island now has three art supply stores, current placement of which is challenging and involved relocation of a school. But the game gives these, and I need the flower power that they provide. What's a virtual island owner to do?! Seriously, now. For my critter lesson, I am learning about sun bears, moon bears, and the vile bile farms.

So I read that a 40,000-year-old cuneiform hymn is the first written (or perhaps just surviving or discovered written) music and a biblical character was the first musician in that context to play strings. Lovelove musicology! Still want to know what was the first music.

Thank you MTS!

We haven't left yet....flying out in a couple of days.
Looking forward to spending time on the other coast!
Hope you got a beautiful dress and other nice couture. My DDs and I need to shop for new T-s and cotton stuff. West Coast for us in September.

Long day today and commuting home. Attended a very nice after work business function and had a nice time. Wine makes me sleepy. So hot during the day, I was miserable while hoofing it.
It's interesting how alcohol makes some people loud with lowered inhibitions and self-awareness, while others get sleepy and quiet.
