Five Guys dine i

I did a 5G this evening. When I entered besides staff there were 2 customers. I ordered ate checked the rest room stayed 15 minutes. The soda choices were great. Food was good. Peanuts were a bit salty but tasty. I felt a bit funny sitting there alone but I definitely met the 15 minute rule, then after 15 minutes took my bag of left over fries and heard a crew guy yell thanks for coming as I left. Enjoyed the shop.

this reads like a short story, a very short story
When I first started mystery shopping them, the dining rooms were crowded. They are pricing themselves out.

No, Brandon is pricing everyone out...I haven't done a 5-Guys shop in many months. The fee I used to routinely receive is no longer accepted under "Make An Offer." It's not profitable for me to drive to the locations that I used to for these shops. I will NOT lower MY price for an MSC's profit.

I regret I am not able to give Maverick's post more than one LIKE.
I regret that this forum, unlike other forums, allows political rants and comments.
I'm a proud unregistered centrist, so my only skin in the game is wanting to participate in forums free of the tired and very old, BS.

PS/my observations are the same as mentioned - the dining rooms are not as busy as they once were and I never observe delivery pickups any more. Could be price related and likely is - as well, burgers and fries may be a waning restaurant category.

Inflation is everywhere. I believe the rising cost of fuel used for delivery of all items is tacking on costs to every item. 5G is expensive for what you get but then again I went to Mc Ds with a friend and her grands the other day and was shocked at the prices for the relatively low quality both in terms of taste and nutrition food.
Just did my third after being reinstated by the MSC.

Two of them my burger was wrong, so I got a couple extra meals out of the deal.

Last night's I had to go negative in my report, even though it meant concocting some extra sentences. Both the manager (working the grill) and the fry cook were dour automatons, presenting not even a scintilla of positive energy for the time I was there.

I could not in good conscience say they were genuinely happy.

Made sure to point out the cashier was personable and outgoing.

Ok, let's put the political rant aside...

How about we talk about the lack of quality in service and products. I expect less from people who provide a service today than in years past. For example, I won't even rant about any MSC / Shop here, but I had a front end alignment done over a year ago and I know the torque setting on the bolts were around 180lb-ft. When I drove the vehicle home, I put my new torque wrench on the bolts and they were ALL less than 150lb-ft. That tells me they don't read the specifications, they just tighten. Period.

Now back to our MSC's / Shops, I find people in service related positions are typically just going through the motions today and they'd rather be on their smartphones.

When was the last time you were wow'd by an employee's performance? Myself? I can't even remember.
@maverick1

I think you will find most people who "work for the man" are trying to do as little as possible. If "the man" is there helping his business he will go above and beyond (sometimes).

There are companies that pay more than minimum wage and get the better employees. they don't just hire anyone to fill a position. I think of In N Out and Costco like this. The non-high performers are at Walmart and can't get a job at Costco. I have a membership to both Sams and Costco. You ever see how depressing walking thru Sams Club is? the workers look miserable. I'm not saying every Costco employee is the best, but I rarely come across a "bad" Costco employee. Same with In N out. But you can find all kinds of clowns at McD, JITB, Walmart, etc. Better companies hire better employees and pay better.

But in general, I agree...the "American" worker mostly does not take pride in their work. While in Japan, some of these people commit suicide if they make a faulty product because they feel so much shame. Here, it's all about "getting over" and how much one can get away with. People brag all the time about how much they get away with. Times have certainly changed and i was born in the 70s. I'm sure @shopperbob can tell us plenty of more examples.
"I could not in good conscience say they were extremely happy."

Genuinely happy is the criteria.

Do not read so much, look about you and think of what you see there.

Young people are not taught to take personal pride in their work. They grow up in a single parent household so they don't have the resources of a 2 or more household generally.

Walmart is the in place to work. They actively work to promote within the system.

Woah, hold on a minute, whosear! I was raised in a single parent household. I'm the first to earn a college degree. I take personal pride in my work. I worked after high school, through college (along with my employer who helped pay for classes) and saved every dollar I could. So much so that I retired earlier than all of my peers.

I think the word I'm looking for is ambition. Very few children brought up today have that internal drive of ambition. The ambition to design and complete projects or to start a small business; plumbing, electrical, HVAC, automotive, architectural, restaurant, etc.

Why have ambition when your college loan may be forgiven? Why have ambition to start a business when government hands out checks that allows you to stay at home? Why have ambition when you can easily buy cannabis in your neighborhood and chill out in front a screen?
Speaking of the lack of ambition these days, there is a deeper concern I have other than the lack of good customer service in retail or restaurants. My two brothers worked for two local shipyards before they retired, one government (Navy) shipyard and the other a privately owned which builds aircraft carriers. The one brother who worked for the private shipyard had been complaining about the young newcomers who get hired, and how they spend much of their days on their phones gaming, listening to music or on their crypto apps. The work ethic with the younger workers is just doing the minimum work to get by. So think about it, these workers are the ones who are building our aircraft carriers and will be there when the old timers with the strong work ethic are retiring. Let that sink in for a minute. This is not about a hamburger that was prepared incorrectly, this is a small part of our national security.

The youngins' have a name for it... Quiet Quitting. You work the bare minimum just to keep your job and never attempt to go above and beyond.

Oh, and I'm not saying ALL younger workers, there are still those who have a strong work ethic, but unfortunately they are becoming the exception.

Just to elaborate, the govt. vs private shipyard isn't the issue, I've worked for a MAJOR defense contractor and worked along side govt. reps. It's just the lack of ambition and lack of pride in work.
well, someone else will, so I guess thats how it will be. It's nice we get to choose here what we will do and for how much.
I'm going to disagree with this. I have children, and they, and their friends DO have ambition, and they have all excelled at their jobs, be it at a fast food or a more professional setting. Despite them not really needing to have a job at all, since they have received an inheritance from one parent's death. They do have pride in the work they do, and I am extremely proud of them. Every generation has a few bad apples, and yet the world continues on. I for one, have a lot of faith in our youth, basing on the ones that I know.

Not the norm based on my experience, and kudos to you.

I teach community college, and I'm appalled by the overall lack of work ethic displayed by the current generation of young adult learners. Apparently having to do work is unpleasant, and is therefore off the table for many.

In classes of 15 to 20 students I can usually expect 3 or 4 to be on top of things and actually complete all the required work each semester.

Unfortunately for the students, my district does not allow failing grades. Students who do not successfully complete the work get an "E", the equivalent of an Incomplete.

While that is kinder and gentler than an F in this age of the mollycoddled, it winds up screwing up their student loan financing. An F would not, as it would indicate the course had been completed, with no credits being awarded.

Our nation is doomed...

Well they turned down my MAO of my normal $30. Two days later I get a call and they offer me $30, so I took it.

Small burger and small fries came to $12.70, a nickel under maximum reimbursement. I ordered a small drink and was given a cup but was not charged for it. That's a first for me. However, I guess it happens a lot since there is a question on the survey asking if you were charged for it.

Does the reimbursement vary by region? It is $17.25 here. $12.75? That's crazy!

You are correct. It's been that long since I did one I forgot it was $17.25. Well I did have the right numbers, just in the wrong order. LOL.
I had a cheeseburger, fries and drink the other day. It was $23. I get what i want to eat. If I go over the reimburse, that is fine. I don't take a shop for less than $20 pay anyways. I'm not going to be cheap and order the cheapest thing that I don't want just to stay close to reimbursement amount. Because I wait for $20 pay or higher, I don't get these very often, so I want to ENJOY the food I'm eating.
I do feel most of the assignment fees are lowering. Possibly because more shoppers are working. I consistently have two schedulers from the company calling me and giving me good pay. I take a few here and there at lower pays to keep them calling me. Overall, for a fast food restaurant pay, 5 Guys is awesome.
