Suggestion: Don't go on Wheel of Fortune and announce that you're a mystery shopper

A contestant on today's Wheel of Fortune announced that she is a professional mystery shopper and said that she goes to restaurants, etc. No, she was not wearing a disguise (although I guess she could be wearing a wig). I'm guessing that any schedulers who saw the show will not be allowing her to shop for them anymore, since now restaurants know what she looks like (not to mention breaking the cardinal rule, you don't tell people that you are a mystery shopper)

Why would someone do this???

I don't know how many people watch the show but I don't think this will have much impact on how schedulers treat her. OTOH, it may be good advertising for her if she has plans to sell her "professional" advice to newbies.
I don't think if I saw someone on a game show I would recognize them days later in a different context.
Well, they have 8.3 million viewers. And she also said where she lives. All you need is a few restaurant and retail employees to recognize her, and then the next time she's shopping, she's busted. They could even take a screenshot and post it in the employee area.

Did she win at least?
She did not. And I found her listed as "professional restaurant surveyor" on one website that summarizes WoF episodes.
Perhaps she is the poster child of those with ratings of less than 5. Or why schedulers list such basic instructions as if shoppers are not too bright.
@MisterBill - Well, you certainly busted her!

As one of my favorite comedians says, "Here's your sign!"
I would not be surprised if she also joins the Face Book group of every MSC so that the entire world potentially knows that she is a mystery shopper. I have never had any idea why shoppers plaster their mystery shop status all over FB.

Shopping Southeast Pennsylvania, Delaware above the canal, and South Jersey since 2008
Think about it from a high level.

Mystery shops are a very small percentage of the interactions that an employee possibly could have.

What’s even smaller is the chance that an employee saw WOF and works in the place that this person is shopping AND they are the employee during the interaction AND recognizes the person conducting the shop AND they actually care.

I hate to ruin anyone’s parade, but the chances of us being discovered as shoppers are slim to none and if so, it’s a very small percentage overall.
I was in another room when this aired, but I remember hearing them say that and thinking, "I must of heard that wrong." But after seeing this post...I guess I heard correctly. Thanks for clearing that up for me. smiling smiley
I have not seen WOF in a long time, but if I remember right does he usually ask a follow up question..

Contestant--I am a professional mystery shopper (PMS)

Pat-- What is a PMS and how long have you been doing it?

Contestant-- They explain what it is and I have been doing it about 30 years ?
Leveraging her interesting backstory as a mystery shopper might have been what got her on the show. The potential gains from winnings surely outweighed any potential losses from being outed.
No...... a PMS is a painful menstrual syndrome.....

Seriously.

Some people remember names and faces for years and years and years. They never forget. These are the people who could make trouble for that PMS.
