Advice sought: fair compensation

I was assigned a senior living call and tour for the fee of $75 + $25 bonus. I spent time reviewing the guidelines and taking notes so I wouldn't miss any details on the shop. I then make the call only to determine they are not opening the site until 2024 (only after giving my real contact information as required). The company will be removing the shop. I feel that I have provided a service since they couldn't be bothered to find out that it wasn't open before hand and I made the call and shared my personal information. What is a fair/reasonable amount of compensation to ask for? (I would like to get something so don't want to ask for so much that they don't take it seriously). Thanks

I doubt you will get much for it. But I agree, that they should NOT be posting assignments that are not valid. Maybe they give you $10 at the most.

I did a shop back in March. I attempted to do it. It had a specific date and time. However, the client messed up and it could not be done because of a special event. Anyways, I took pictures and texted the scheduler and was told to not worry about doing the shop. I got paid the shop fee. But that was a good company. I'm not sure the MSC you are doing this for is so generous.
I would probably ask for $15. Like you said, you spent time doing the call and reviewing guidelines for a shop that you thought paid $100. Had they not messed up, you could have spent that time on another shop.
I had a similar experience - I was supposed to call and make an appointment for a visit at a jewelry store - I placed the call (after reviewing the guidelines and getting ready for the shop) and was told the store was being remodeled and wouldn't be open for a few weeks - the company paid me half the fee. You can argue with the company you did the shop for that other MSCs will pay you half the fee and consider it a "misfire" - but as hbbigdaddy said, it will depend on the MSC ...
I once had a phone shop that required me to provide my real contact info and wait for the target to call me back. I thought I had to give the target 30 days to call me, but it turned out that they expected me to wait 60 days. I also had to memorize a scenario. The call itself wasn't expected to last very long, but waiting two months seemed excessive to me. During that time, I had to review the scenario regularly to keep it fresh in my mind, plus make sure not to miss the call. All that for only $15, I think it was.

So, the target never called. The due date for receiving my payment wasn't a clearly set date, so I sent a message to the person in charge of the project to ask when to expect it and I was told that since the target never called me, I would get only $5. I wrote back and said I was very disappointed by that because of all the preparation I'd made to be ready for the call and - this was the important part - nowhere in the guidelines nor in the recruiting email from the scheduler did it state that I would get partial payment if the call never came. Because of that detail, the project manager apologized and I was paid the full shop amount.

Of course, that person saw my logic when I expressed my disappointment, and responded fairly. However, there have been a number of times when I did not get paid due to some snafu that was not my fault. So, you can try, but you never know how it will turn out. In my case, I actually didn't ask them to pay me, I just stated why I was so disappointed and felt it was unfair.

I'm surprised they removed the shop. I recently did one for a property that was being built. I was advised by the sales rep I met with, I could tour the sister property some 30 miles away. I was able to get the floor plans, rent rates, amenities, et al, from my meeting in the office of the too be built property. My pay was $75 and I got the full pay. On top of it, I was given a "goodie bag" for visiting the property which was swag from the new properties including a coffee mug, a box of chocolates, pen, and ironically , reading glasses.
The only draw back was, where I live, all the senior living centers are owned by the same company and with them having my info, I can't do another one for a year
I usually show up anyway and get full pay always. I ask the telephone representative if I can come by the office and get a glimpse of the property or just to see the surroundings. The representative has always welcomed the visit. And I do end up with promotional material and a business card. I do not mention those things over the telephone (asking for promotional material), because they tend to sway you to their website. When the pay is high and/or bonused, I do what I can to make that visit. Those reports for not seeing the apartment interior or anything under construction are very easy to fill out. And they usually show you photographs of what the builder has proposed.
I had a shop where people were not there all day. There must have been some kind of emergency. Instead of $55 for the shop, I got paid $3. Another location closed and moved next door. The place was empty and I posted a picture. The editor was like how did you know it was close?. It looks like there is something in there. I responded that she was seeing reflections in the window and also a window inside of the place. I had gotten out of my car and looked inside and the store had moved next door to a larger location in the same mall. I also said that if they want more than 1 photo of a closed location, then they should ask for more photos. As it stood, they only asked for 1 photo. Instead of $25, I got $1 for a closed location. That's how it is when you are operating on a pay per complete basis. You don't get paid for your TIME. It sucks and I don't agree with it, but it is what it is. They should at least give you the bonus.

Hey jazzzyjd, give us an update and let us know how it went. Did you ask for some $$? If so, how much did you ask for and what was the response?
Thanks for all the input everyone. Acturally after 2 days they came back and decided since it was a sompetitor shop they still wanted to know what the competitor was offering and the pricing and asked me to meet with the leasing office. I will head over there this afternoon and get my $100.
