Well I have to check in after finishing one of these shops today.
It was a dine in. I was served quickly.
I was brought up where my Mom didn't cook with peppers or onions because they gave my Dad indigestion. Thinking black pepper was a wake up call.
After graduating from college, I moved to Dallas, Texas (for 33 years) and developed an affection for spicy food.
I was able to finish the beef sandwich, but not without sipping on the "complementary" vanilla, dairy milkshake. For those not in the know, dairy is the thing that will quench the fire brought by hot peppers.
I would say, I didn't really enjoy the sandwich. I could taste the meat, but the sauce was the fiery culprit. When I opened the sandwich to take the required picture, I think if I had scraped off the sauce and peppers I would have enjoyed the sandwich. Perhaps it would have then been mildly spicy. Then it would have been a roast beef sandwich with cheese with residual spiciness without having to add additional horsey sauce.
I had to sip the shake and lick my lips because they were what was hitting the heat the most. There was a definite hot surge after taste after swallowing, but it was mostly my lips.
I was getting hot burps for at least an hour after and I take Omeprazole (Prilosec) daily. It allows me to enjoy spicy foods. I started the fries, but haven't really delved into them. I think I will tomorrow after re-warming them, but will try to avoid the sauce, which is where the heat seems to be.
I would not say they are habaneros. I just know I can handle most jalapenos, and this was hotter or on par with eating raw jalapenos with the seeds.
I don't know if you can do one of these shops before doing one of the actual shop, for a regular shop, I'd do it again, if they were to bonus the shop.
I do think this challenge will do really well in the southwestern US. There were guys that lived to make the most inedible hot salsa they could. And they were my friends.
Give me the gyros or the Rueben or the pseudo Philly cheese steak any day of the week instead!
