What does a storage rentals facility shop entail? What are the requirements and is it worth it?

Make a phone call if needed, pretend to need to rent a unit, record video or audio if needed, follow scenario, submit report, get paid. Some of easier high fee assignments I do.

Is it worth it, depends. Is it a shop or an audit; the fee; and the MSC. I've seen storage shops listed for $15 or $20 that stay on the board forever. I did one recently for $30, but was hoping for more. For the time commitment, pics, and report, it was okay. Others on this board get $50 and up.

There is one MSC in particular that has storage audits that is slow paying and they have a long report which took me over 2 hours to fill out and have a minimum on site stay requirement. That one was not worth it.

I stayed away from another storage shop that required if the office was locked and the associate did not return within 20 minutes of arrival, then you were to self rent the cheapest unit. The MSC said they would reimburse you within 10 days for the unit cost and pay for the shop the following month.

My lowest offer to do a storage shop in a bad neighborhood with one of the bigger players was rejected at $55.
Depends on the type of shop. Some are inquiry only, and the time on-site is pretty short. But the report is long. I try to get at least $30 for those, but have done them for $25 to fill a route. The rent-reveal shops are more time-consuming. There are some on the job board now for $40 or $45. I'd take them at that, but they're out of town for me, and not worth the drive for that single shop. If I can find another good-paying shop in that area, I'll see if I can get one of the storage shops.

I learn something new every day, but not everyday!
I've learned to never trust spell-check or my phone's auto-fill feature.
I charge $50 for the rent/reveal storage shops and they must either be local or in an area to which I am traveling for other work.
I will only do the inquiry ones on site -- I'm just not willing to rent and reveal. But lately the storage shops (and there are several different companies being shopped by several different MSCs!) just aren't tempting to me anymore. Most of the inquiry ones are offering only $15 and I want at least $25.

BTW, for those who have done them, isn't it an *amazing coincidence* that every time you express hesitation about renting, it's the last unit they have and it could be gone any second?!
The reports are easy. I like to use them as fillers with nearby, higher paying shops.

I'm commenting on the ones offered by the company that schedules the hedgehog fast food shops.
I didn't like not knowing in advance whether the location would be staffed and inquiry only, or having to wait 20 minutes, then fork out over $100 to rent the unit and wait 10 days for reimbursement. I don't doubt they reimburse, but that's a lot to have pending and the shop fee is the same whether its staffed or not. I got lucky on the first shop, but on my second shop, I was surprised to find an unstaffed location and ultimately cancelled when I realized how much money it required to rent.
Thank you for all your informative replies. That is exactly (and more) what I needed to know. You all are wonderful. Membregratui.
After you cancelled the shop, for good reason in my opinion, were you penalized with less shop offers??
