Thanks so much for asking this question. I’m a believer in audio recording but have been hesitant to do video for fear of losing all the data and not completing the shop. The comments about practicing with video have encouraged me.
Regarding employee privacy. For years I managed a division of 38 employees who were recorded anytime they were on duty. My experience with recording was a positive one; employees accepted being recorded as part of the job and if there was a complaint they valued that recordings provided factual information.
Seeing and hearing oneself is a valuable tool in helping identify how to appear professional. I had an employee listen to herself and count how times she said the word “like” in a conversation with a customer. She counted sixteen times and was very grateful someone had said something about this habit. She asked to continue to listen to her recordings to make sure she stopped doing this.
