One year later

Wednesday was the last day of school. Yesterday was my first day off. I completed my first job on July 1st last year.

June 27
Cable shop $45
Storage shop $35
(Those were right by each other)
Car shop $100 (really far- 70 miles)
Field Agent random stuff on the way $22 (covered gas)
Dining Shop $35 reimbursement
Total $180 profit/$35 reimbursement, 200 miles driving

June 28
Four phone shops right by each other but 30 miles away from me $30 each (2-2.5 hours total before reports)
Bank shop? $40 asked for $50, we will see
Total $120+ profit, 64 miles driving, same gas from yesterday

Last year I started with some $9 phone shops.
The $40 bank shop was $20.

This job is awesome with some time and work. Thank you all for your help and advice!! There is hope if you are just starting.

How have you seen your earnings change over time?

Nice! smiling smiley

Over time, I have increased and then decreased my participation and earnings. Right now, I am on hiatus* and only contemplating more assignments.

* Didn't know what else to call my non-vacation and non-retirement happy break.

My garden in England is full of eating-out places, for heat waves, warm September evenings, or lunch on a chilly Christmas morning. (Mary Quant)
I retired in January from my full time job. So now I am doing a lot more mystery shopping and audits now.

I do fewer shops, but overall, the shops pay/reimburse more. As a semi-retired, traveling oldster, I'm right where I want to be.

Certainly both the information and the mutual encouragement of a forum help you grow your business, find a wider array of options and increase your pay. Congratulations on a great beginning run on the summer!
$60 for the bank...I didn't even ask for that much. I called and was told, it was that much now. Whoo hoo smiling smiley
I no longer take the $4 Chinese food or $12 burger shops unless it’s on my route AND they offer a nice bonus. I used to do these a lot to gain experience. I still have a lot to learn but now I can be picky. Love the grocery, retail, banking, and home improvement shops that pay $30 - $60. Reimbursements for fine dining restaurants are nice too! I have yet to do a hotel shop! :/
Great job, Niner! I also remember my first year being a major learning curve and really starting to make more money as the year flew by. This last year I have kind of gone back to some quicker, easier shops that pay less but that is only because of being more busy in my personal life and not having as much time for MS. Next year I plan to start taking on more shops again. Thanks for sharing!!

Hi Niner,
Previously, you mentioned that you were a practicing lawyer. How does mystery shopping compare to working as a lawyer?

Thanks.

D
You make about .05% as much as you could as a lawyer, but the work is much more enjoyable. I used to work from 7:00 AM until 10:00 PM. I now teach, have summers off, do this for the enjoyment of it, as well as some extra income. I would not want to go back as a practicing attorney.

Respect to you then. I'm sure you saved a bunch of dollars during your time in the legal profession and now you can shape the rest of working life in the way you want it to go.
Nope. Helped my mom and step-dad. It's okay though.

Good for you. We should strive to do what we can in such circumstances.
