I get an email from them asking to do a job, yet my two sit on the board.....if I'm not assigned in a couple days, I'm over and out, job is due the 7th.

Shopmetrics shows you if the shop has been assigned to someone else, because it allows you to apply as the backup shopper, so that's neither correct, not possible.

If your application remains, the shop has not yet been assigned.....

Not exactly true. If I apply for a shop it is moved from my available shops to applied for shops. If someone is then assigned to the shop the status of the shop in my applications area does not change. Once you apply for a shop it no longer shows up when you search for available shops. So to see if a shop you had applied for has been assigned you would need to cancel your application in order for it move back to available shops then look for it there. And that's assuming the MSC doesn't create a copy of the shop when they actually assign it to someone.

Considering the tactics of the crappy MSC we are talking about it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they made a copy in order keep the other applications open. That gives them a backup in case they need a reshop and also it makes shoppers more likely to apply for other shops theyight need. If a shopper is continually declined applications then they get pissy and stop applying. If they have 84 open applications they might eventually cancel them themselves with the thought of "oh they weren't ready to assign this yet and my window has passed" as opposed to "they are not going to give me a shop unless they absolutely have to", which is more likely the case.

I'm guessing that Shopmetrics has a variety of setting or how those things are handled, but your description is not accurate for the MSC in question.

When you apply for a shop, it goes into your applications and is not longer visible as an open opportunity, but it then disappears from your list of applications once it has been assigned.

If the shopper doesn't come through and the shop returned to the board, your application will remain and it will once more appear in applications with your request intact. Shops that have been assigned and not applied for will also show as available to be a backup shopper...so it's pretty clear when something has been assigned or rescheduled, and a process already exists to allow people to apply as a backup.

Outside of the fact that this negates a need to create a copy of the shop, or somehow mislead shoppers to get shops assigned, you are probably giving the schedulers a bit too much credit for time they may have on their hands to deal with that kind of stuff. Creating backups of assignments and leaving them out on the board would cause mayhem with their scheduling system.
The basic questions till remains. Why don’t they assign shops sooner so that we can lock down our schedules? I would think that would also actually benefit schedulers in the long run as there would be fewer cancellations.

I think that they are trying to get round 1 done and reported before scheduling a lot of round 2.

Did you get any yet?
Nope. I was passed on my May application and I’m now waiting on June.

How strange.
I am busy the first weekend of May, but the one for Mid-May is still pending. I did not apply to any for this next weekend. I did not apply for any June ones that I can think of.
I just cancelled mine and took a self-assign with another MSC...a girl can only wait so long, I've developed a couple more lines waiting...

I applied for June. We will see how long I wait.
Anyone know the reason why they don't want leftovers taken home? Just curious, considering that they want a lot of food ordered. I have never seen this requirement before.
This MSC generally requires no food to be taken home. I don't know the reason, but they normally do state "no doggie bags."
I've got one for tonight. The guidelines state 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, and 1 dessert to share is allowed.
I am curious if any side dishes are allowed? I am guessing no. I did email about it just to check. Also it doesn't state to get two different entrees, just that two entrees are required. Chilean seabass is one of my favorites, but the surf n turf looks good, too. I am just wondering if they are both good or if hubby and I can get the same dish.

So I did a PFChangs shop last Saturday, report super simple straight forward. I have not eaten there in over 10 years and now I remember why! The food was mediocre, appetizer blah and we ordered the signature lettuce wrap ( vegetarian version though), the 2 main dishes one was excellent (the sea-bass) one was sub par, the dessert was average. So many other good restaurants in my area compared to this place. I wish with the amount $100 we could order at least 2 appetizers maybe I would have gotten another decent dish. Right after I did the shop, I got 2 emails saying that my report was overdue, it was very frustrating since I double checked my shop date and the guidelines clearly stated 24 hours. I wrote back to both emails and finally got a reply saying sorry for the mistake. It took a whole week, I finally got the report back and I got 100%. I will do another one if I get assigned just to eat the sea-bass!
I got the surf and turf and it was delicious. We didn't try the seabass but heard it is also very good.
Cool, maybe we will just get one of each and share. It's family style so sounds like that's doable.
The basic reason for the 'no doggie bags' policy is to be sure that guests don't over-order purposefully to take advantage of generous reimbursements...and then it seems like shoppers are ordering more than necessary to the management who read the reports.

Agreed that it really doesn't have much relevance for a report like this where the amount of food you order is fixed, but it seems the MSC sticks with this general policy for all assignments. In reality, having the food packaged for take home just adds to the amount of narrative you need to submit, so why would one ever mention it?

They give you rice as a side dish for no charge with most entrees, but I would not suggest ordering a chargeable side or two of the same food item, even if it's not specifically prohibited. This is such an easy evaluation that it's best to give them what they want, and be happy with your extras that you can surreptitiously take home....
Well what if something went south with the evaluation and the shop was discussed with the server, who then remembered packaging up the to-go items? I think I will just stick with the guidelines and leave the leftovers there. We are not big people but we do have good appetites, hopefully the serving sizes are adequate. I am not much of a dessert person (nor is hubby), though so if I don't have to order that I won't. It said dessert was allowed but did not say it was required. And I haven't heard back about whether or not I can get two of the same entree or not. I know it's early on the West Coast...

99% sure you can’t get two of the same entree. I’ve never seen that accepted anywhere. The client is paying for two different entrées they want two different reviews of two different items.
I had applied for one tonight and didn't get it. Maybe next time, I hope.
I still didn't get one, and it's still on the board, but do get emails to do specific restaurants.....what's up Steve!!

I don't think so. I had received an email from a scheduler urging me to apply. I applied through the company's website, heard nothing, checked the site and saw that my application had been removed.
Has anyone bought and tried their frozen bags of food in the grocery store? I was sincerely unimpressed with them. I bought them on sale and I would not choose to purchase them again. I haven't dined at the restaurant yet. There's a couple of small Chinese restaurants here that are fantastic.
Well I was not impressed. The food was overpriced for the quality and portion size. I had the Chilean Sea bass and my hubby had the surf and turf. We shared. We both thought it was just okay. It's interesting how food can vary from location to location at chain restaurants, as others had those dishes and liked them. We loved the crab won tons though, but not enough to make up for the lackluster entrees. I cancelled my other pending application. I'd rather pay to get food from that awesome hole in the wall place around the corner from my house.

Oh, man, I can't imagine how anyone can mess up Chilean Sea Bass. That is some of the most beautiful fish in the sea! Too bad. There are two Texas Roadhouse's here and they differ also, depending who is cooking and what day of the week it is. One is much better when it's far less busy than Saturday night and the other is better when it's busy. It's the little things that can make a difference.
They weren't busy, less than 1/2 full. I personally make an awesome Chilean sea bass with an olive oil, dill, and dry mustard based marinade. I too thought it was going to be awesome. Underwhelming.
Too bad the meal wasn't up to your expectations. I find that peiwei makes just as good, if not even better food than their sister pf chang.

I applied for a shop and was still on the waiting list. I took it off because i couldn't keep waiting.
Good to know...I'm cancelling as well.

I've applied for several and some disappeared, yet another still sits. I think it has sat for a solid month. I chalked it up to the fact I'd never done a shop for them before and they'd prefer their more seasoned people to take it. I can understand that.

I've let it sit because I have nothing going for that weekend so I'll let it continue to do so until something else more appealing pops up.

I will say, though, that this experience of applying, seeing the job disappear, reapplying, etc.. has left a bad taste in my mouth. Then to hear the food really isn't that great? Pretty sure this isn't an MSC that I want to work for. I don't need to beg for work so I'm thinking they can take their lettuce rolls and... <insert your thought here>

Just out shopping around...
I haven't tried their frozen food or dined at one of their restaurants. After reading this thread I probably won't. I have to say that the best frozen Chinese food I have ever had was the Mandarin Orange Chicken from Trader Joe's. Reasonably priced too.
