Wells Fargo Unauthorized Inquiry Shop

A MSC has shops where you can either call or visit the assigned branch about an unauthorized account being opened. Has anyone done one of these? I like WF shops but this one sound like it would get a lot of people in trouble and it would just be a flat out lie.

I have done the phone shop. It’s super easy and pays well. Don’t most of our shops involve lying?
The MSC does not want you to be confrontational. You simply state that you don’t recall opening or closing an account. They should transfer you to a specific department. The purpose of the shop is to see if they are handling these situations correctly. That’s it.
But this is making an allegation that someone opened an account without my knowledge. To me, that is a whole different type of lying. In order to get more information on it, I have to actually accept the shop and I don't want to until I actually know what's in store. Could there be any repercussions?
I just acted like I was forgetful. The shop took me only a couple minutes. I talked to a scheduler from the MSC before I did this shop for clarification. Super easy! I just signed up for another.
Ok, thanks. I signed up, I'll give the MSC a call tomorrow just for clarification as well. Plus, I opened an account yesterday from that I actually do want to close. I guess it's a win-win.
Is this a shop for people who are not already existing customers of WF?
Its for people who are current customers or have closed an account within the last 6 months according to the guidelines.
I do not see what the problem with this shop is and why everyone is whining about it. They were actually caught doing that a year or so ago. It's too bad that they are actually considered a person but they can't be executed for any wrongdoing.
I see this shop as a problem and would not do it because I have active accounts with WF and would feel like a complete ahole saying I didn't authorize an account or better yet, don't remember opening it. They could easily see the activity on my account. I'll do the teller shops all day.

My issue is that I actually bank with Wells Fargo and don't want to burn bridges or cause confusion. After AnneAshley's response I feel better about it and accepted the shop. If I just had to call a normal customer service agent, I wouldn't care but I have go call my actual bank and talk to someone there first. They already give me funny looks when I go in there to deposit secret shopping checks.

But After reading the instructions my banks shouldn't take a hit and it seems like a quick telephone shop.

I signed up for one which I’ll probably do today. Last one I did, the associate transfered me to customer service instead of the Escalation Department. When I was transferred, I verified that it was not the ED and ended the call. It was a nicely bonused shop to which I got paid no problem. All you have to do is call and say you don’t remember giving permission to close a prior account. You don’t get argumentative. They are trained to direct such calls to the ED. You can also say you don’t recall giving permission to open an account. They should look up your info, and then you just nicely repeat that you don’t recall.... That’s all. Five minutes tops!

Why would you do that?

Because there are a few companies that actual have Secret or Mystery in their company name so when I get a check, it says it. My account at Wells Fargo is for mystery shopping and is where my money for mystery shopping goes so they see a lot of odd amounts and strange names.

What I don't understand is: (1) why deposit in person instead of using an ATM or a mobile app, (2) why choose to shop a bank where you have your MS account, especially if the shop is the type that tends to invite scrutiny of your transactions.
Let me explain: (1) This is not my main bank account. I mystery shop, there's nothing they can do about it. They'll get over it. This is not where my actual paycheck from my 9-5 goes, its a side account. (2) Sometimes I just want the money in the account then. (3) It is what it is.

I would suggest doing mobile deposits with your checks. It’s suoer easy to do if you have a smart phone.
I tried one time to do a mobile deposit and it didn't want to take the check so from then on I just go to one of the branches. Luckily most MSC pay by ACH or Paypal so it's something I don't run into often but the ones who pay by check have the audacity to have Secret or Mystery in their name.

BTW the shop was easy, took 2 minutes because the branch had no idea what to do and told me to call a 1-800 number. I talked to the MSC and they said I did my part so I'll still be paid.
I'm a card-carrying member of several travel hacking groups - when it comes to banks, there is a motto they have: "don't put eyeballs on it"...so easy to avoid this in a world of mobile and ATM banking. These hackers aren't doing anything wrong - so why invite unnecessary scrutiny? We live in a hyper-suspicious world.
