I associate White Castles with late nights drinking. Since I rarely stay out late or drink heavily anymore I haven't been there for a very long time. In our area we have Fresh Thyme markets, which I think has some overlapping ownership with Sprouts as the stores are laid out in a similar manner. I go there a couple of times a week to buy produce.

We too have Fresh Thyme, in addition to Earth Fare and Whole Foods. We do have some smaller regional stores like Raisin Rack as well.

A little off topic, but I remember when White Castle in NY in the 1950's and they were 12 cents each (Mcdonalds was 15 cents at the time but not available in my area of NY). I believe White Castle had a special of 10 for a dollar.

It is a flat-pay shop although I don't think the tofu (which is quite good) is priced differently from the meat. However the name of the chain includes a meat ingredient, which might explain why they don't get too many vegetarians in the door.

I am going to assume that it was cheaper, by $1-$2 and shoppers were ordering that, along with water, to maximize their profit. SMH
Not just younger people going vegan, it is a large movement of all ages.
More meat for the rest of us!
