I wouldn't feel badly about that. Someone in a service industry like car sales should have known better and was very likely trained properly, but had gotten away with that behavior for too long to think it mattered.

Shopaddict, erring on the side of the company helps.

Also, it helps to know how critically they want the shopper to evaluate. I usually ask myself if this is a “white glove” shop (to get a focus from the start). If in serious doubt, I would consider talking with someone at the MSC.
