Hi all! I've been a mystery shopper on and off (depending on my employment at the time) for more than 15 years. I actually started mystery shopping more than 20 years ago when my mom responded to an ad in the paper and I used to go with her when she mystery shopped at the mall (turning in her audits through the mail)! I mystery shopped for a few companies on my own during the mid-1990s, and I've popped back in here and there since then. I've recently started getting back into it, and I really like some of the things I'm seeing and think some of the other changes (or lack thereof) aren't so great. On the positive side, there are A LOT more MSCs on the web than there used to be, and I can find them all online now! On the negative side, some of the prices for shops haven't changed in more than 15 years (or have actually gone down)! I suppose it's a sign of the times - market forces at play. Have you all noticed a steady decline in shopper pay over the last 10 years? I think it has to do with more people learning about mystery shopping and having access to the Internet than there used to be. Also, with more MSCs comes more pressure on the MSCs to keep their prices down. I've found a couple of keeper-companies because their shops coincide with what I already do, but the majority of shops I've found haven't been worth the gas it would take to drive to the client's business. I do love the fact that there are mystery shop forums now, though! It's nice to have a place to be able to relate to others in the field and learn from each other. Thanks all! Have a great day!
