Hello. I'm a newbie.

Hello everyone. I am totally new to mystery shopping. I'm excited to begin shops in my area. I just recently signed up to be an agent with a company that didn't ask for fees or any personal information. Then I went to sign with another company and although they didn't ask for fees, they did ask for my #SS number and DOB. That made me uncomfortable so I didn't complete the app. Is it customary for some companies to ask for such personal info?

Welcome to the forum and to shopping! Yes, it is standard for them to ask SSN, contact information and most of the time age, gender, marital status, height, weight, education, income and other demographics. They need the SSN in order to pay you, though in the past some have been willing to work with you up to about the $600 level where they need to send you a 1099 tax form at the end of the year. Just watch that you are reporting the information on a secure website. The demographic information they need to see if you fit the profile for particular jobs.
