There is a whole lot on here about scammers and current scams. You stay safe by:
1) Don't provide personal data by email - go to a secure website to register. Legitimate companies have you register BEFORE you work for them and they provide a website to do that.
2) Don't cash ANY check sent to you BEFORE you work for a company. Most companies take 4-6 weeks to pay you AFTER you have performed the work.
3) Don't be lured by greed - most jobs pay fees of between $10 and $20 with some paying as little as $1 - when you are told as a new shopper that you will be paid $100 or more as your fee it is a scam.
My radar goes onn when:

-I get a "mystery shop" offer from a company I have not registered with
-Any company sends me a large check and wants me to cash it and send them money back

BOTTOM LINE: If it sounds too good to be true, it's a scam.
There is a furniture company that offers $70 for the shop. You have got to walk for miles in their cavernous warehouse type store to answer over 300 questions. Many of the questions are ambiguous and are purposely written to mislead you. The company will invalidate your shop for one "wrong" answer. I believe they edit your work product use the 299 questions you answered correctly without paying you for your work product. Stay away--bad news! They sucker newbies in.
The name of company in above post is IKEA....it is an impossible shop to do, and here in L.A. they pay $50.00 for 3 hours in store and another 3 hour report. Start with easy jobs and learn your skill, then move on. Good luck!

Thanks guys, actually went on the IKEA shop, only received the guidelines hours before, just couldnt complete it, that store is not a days shopjob. Thanks for the warning guys.
Hi Everyone,
I'm only 2 mo. into mystery shopping and so far love it! I got a $70 shop for Pandora (jewelry) coming up. Has anyone heard anything good or bad about this? I am trying not to be greedy as it's merchandise reimbursment but I jumped at the chance when I saw it posted.

Also, I posted on another thread about this, but can anyone tell me how Shadow Shopper obtains their shops? Where are they pulling from? I use Jobslinger, but it seems like Shadow has many more current shops listed. I didn't pay for the membership - just using the free one - but seeing all of the amazing shops in their weekly email update kills me!

Thanks!
I looked at the Pandora a while back, went to the website and was surprised at how little $70 would buy. I frankly decided I was not willing to have a $70 discount on products and that I wasn't interested in doing the job for a tiny stone in a ring. You might check the website before you decide what you want to do with the job.

Some schedulers use the Shadow Shopper database--especially independent schedulers--from what I understand.
I just saw that job, but they need a younger shopper, and I'm glad. I think asking you to spend $70.00, will turn into more, and what if you don't care for their jewelry...check shop out first to make sure you like what you buy.

Pandora was one of my very first shops. I got a bracelet for $45, I think. It has started into a collection of charms for that bracelet, (MANY!), plus purchasing bracelets for each of my daughters, one as an engagement present and the other as a birthday present, and then just last night giving my sister her first bracelet as a birthday present. They have gotten a lot of mileage out of my first shop as I didn't even know about the product then (last May). Now there is a billboard in my town, a couple of upscale jewelery chains that carry it along with independent shops, and the latest, a stand alone Pandora shop. Also I have seen ads on TV now for the product. smiling smiley
LOL! You are absolutely correct on this one. Leads me to believe what's the purpose.
