Be careful!

Over the past year I became on line friends with several mystery shoppers, exchanging ideas, tips, companies, etc. I thought it was totally ok...until I started getting "stalked" by one of them. The person started looking me up, telling me things about myself or my job that only I would know about. It got very scary, felt beyond creepy and I finally had to get a restraining order against the person. Please folks, be very careful.

Well this is very sad and weird. You must have given out way too much personal information. So sorry this happened to you. That would be creepy indeed.

Weird....sorry you had to experience that. Thanks for the warning.

Forgive my grammar and spelling on the boards. I am off duty.
That is super freaky. It was a guy? and yes i'm a guy. and is there any good grammer software out there better than word?
It was actually another woman. I should have known something was up because she also talked about really personal information regarding other people that posted on some very popular mystery shopping forums/websites. You're right, I probably did give out a bit too much information, but she did a lot of searches on me via the web (so much of our private lives are public on various websites). I believe she is finally GONE (thank heavens)from my life! It was a very scary experience and she appeared (through her emails) to be completely "normal"!! Lesson learned!
Remember we're on cyberspace....we think we know another, but do not. Be cautious and aware, some love to gossip. I don't tell my friends everything...and there are some nuts out there in all walks of life. I agree, there is too much info. on the computer.

Live consciously....
Sounds like a scary situation Janey. Looks like you've learned your lesson and reminded some of us about the risks of becoming "too friendly" on line. Sounds like the legal action you took was the right thing to do. I'm sure you've "blocked" her from accessing your email or any social networking sights. Hopefully she really has stopped stalking you! It's hard to ever really know for sure in cyberspace, but she sounds a bit unbalanced mentally.
Scary to be sure- This is why I don't use ANYTHING in my online adventures that identify myself at all. Sad that we have to hide who we are for our own safety but that's the world we live in. Thanks for sharing the information. Glad you got it settled.
I agree we all have to be very careful. One of the other threads on this site right now is is about the differences between this site and Volition. Volition makes you use use some form of your real name in order to post. Also, you can click on the details of a person to see their real name. This site allows us to maintain our anonymity, if we choose to.
Thank you for the heads up. I am able to handle myself with those types, having had a physical stalker for 3 years who used to leave notes and flowers on my car around town - in LA! And who even found me when I moved to Paris. I simply don't put up with it, it's a waste of my time. I hope none of us have to deal with problem people like that ever again.
This gal sounds like she was a real "creeper"...I've had a similar experience with someone on Volition...good point about that website...they are way too familiar with each other whether it's through the cat fighting or the niceties!

Thanks for the support. Although the person was a good resource for mystery shopping, the price I paid for the on line friendship was definitely "too high."
