Make cheat sheets, crib notes. Read them in the car before you go in. Go to the rest room if you forgot a detail. You do not have to print guidelines in full, just update the Cheat sheets when subtle changes are made. I have a little corner of the cheat sheet for monthly special instructions. 90% of the forms are routine.
Carry a digital recorder and talk to yourself people do it all the time on their cells and blue tooth. I see henpecked husbands walking down the aisles saying "yes dear!" What a great world, they do not throw a net over you if it appears you are talking to yourself anymore.
Be careful just look around cautiously for employees. At a restaurant you can tell your recorder as you see the server coming, “yes dear let me eat the food is here.” There is no one on the other end of the recorder that is hidden in your pocket. You can talk to people on line. “wow only 2 people on line” at the exact moment you join the line and look at your watch when you get home.
I have never been detected and I spice up my reports with quotes that the “people on a nearby table” had with the server and manager. Store personnel hear quotes and do not dare deny the information that the mystery shopper overheard. I put the information in the third person as if the employee is giving someone else poor service. “A customer in line ahead of me …” “The people at a nearby table were unhappy with this or that and called the manager. It actually happened to me but the server got credit for abusing customers without me being identified as the mystery shopper. I could go back there again 30, 60 or 90 days later.
