New member safeway mystery shopper

Hello, my name is Candy and i was in the process of becoming a mystery shopper for safeway and i was very excited...i was going to go to a training class on dec 5th but then yesterday someone called me and said that the class had been canceled. I tried to call them and the operator mentioned that the program was closed. Now the emails won't go through and there is not one to talk to. Do any one of you know if they really close the mystery program for safeway?
I would really appreciate any answers.

I have no idea. But Sobey's bought Safeway.

Don't know if there's a connection. Maybe they just cancelled for now due to some reorganization or revamping of the mystery shop program.

Lots of other shops to do in the meantime.

Did sobey's just bought Safeway?..i mean just recently?..this month?...I was going to start doing it and i just find very strange that suddently they will cancel it. Anyhow thanks for your respond. Do you know if safeway was a good company to work for?...i feel that i just need closure to be in peace that i didn't get the job smiling smiley
It's recent and for all I know, it's just in Canada.
But sometimes companies decide to change their program and discontinue it while making changes. I would assume that whatever they told you was the truth. If you want to mystery shop, there is a list of companies at the bottom of this page who mystery shop for various clients.
So, not like the Safeway program.

Yes, they did cancel the program. I was a Safeway shopper for the past five years. Yesterday, I received a form letter (salutation addressed to 'shopper'-instead of my name) that indicated the program had been cancelled. I then looked at my schedule, online, and all upcoming scheduled assignments were gone. They didn't even have the professionalism to send a more personalized letter that addressed me by my name. To make a long story short-they cancelled the program like someone dropped a hot potato. I had shops scheduled with them through mid December, which means my schedule was planned around this work schedule and all of a sudden they just yanked the rug out. At least they could have finished the scheduled schedule or at least not have scheduled the next set. Obviously, the executives of this company knew for a lengthy time that they were going to exit this program. I'm not a disgruntled employee, but Safeway was very unprofessional in the manner in which they handled this.
Candy, Elvira is right they cancelled the program. I received a form letter just like Elvira's. I was a bit surprised since I had a shop scheduled for today, and just received the letter 2 days ago. Like Elvira I had shops scheduled through the middle of December as well. I agree with Elvira, Safeway should of let us complete our scheduled shops, and give us some notice to boot. This was a part-time job for me and to be honest I won't miss it.
I was scheduled for a training class on December 3rd and had taken a day off from my other job, paid for all day parking, went into the hotel where the training was supposed to be and was told that there was no reservation for Safeway for that day. The strange thing about this is that I was just in that hotel on Friday Nov. 29th to ask about the parking situation and Safeway was on their schedule! I would have felt really dumb, but there was another person there for training as well and he had traveled 2 1/2 hours to be there. We both looked up our emails to see that we had the right info, tried to call the phone number we had been given, no answer. Then we both sent emails. Don't know if he ever got a response, but I never have. Guess I know why now. I was never given a cancellation notice. I was quite disappointed and it makes me wonder if the company is even worth working for if they are so disorganized! Not sure I want to try this again or not.
