I've been lurking for a few days. Just started mystery shopping last week. So far have only done 2, Buffalo Wild Wings and a Dairy Queen Drive-Thru. It's pretty interesting and I'm still learning. Have about 8 more scheduled for the next week so I'm pretty excited. I have tons of questions though. How far in advance do you guys schedule? And how do you sign up with 100 companies and find shops? I'm only signed up with about 80 so far and even those it takes me a couple of hours a day just to log into them all and find something to do. I think next I need to figure out routes!

How far in advance depends on the shop. Fillers are just that and not considered until going on a route.

The list at the bottom of the page contains about 200 companies. To speed up registration use some type of program that will fill some fields for you whether it is your browser or something like Roboform. It is also a good idea to have a couple of brief sample narratives along with an equally brief résumé saved so they can be copied and pasted.

Getting a feel for which companies consistently have work on your area mostly takes time. In the beginning I checked a lot of boards and finally narrowed it down. Meanwhile make sure you opt to have every company send you e-mail notifications. Just because they don't have work this week doesn't mean they won't next month or even next year. All the time you spend in the beginning is the "investment" you are making in creating and growing your new business.

Thanks for the info! I'm up to almost 100 companies now. Still not finding some of the clients I'd really like, but perhaps some of them aren't shopped.

You are welcome to ask if certain clients are shopped. The ICA violation is someone posting an answer or naming a certain MSC and a client...

The list is long! I'm really looking for casual dining type things. I don't eat a lot of fast food and prefer not to except for Chick-Fil-a, and I assume if someone shops those they only stay on the board for about 30 seconds before someone takes them. I'd love to find places like Panera, McAllister's, Chipotle, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Ruby Tuesday, Outback, Longhorn, etc. BWW is the only one I've seen so far.

Most MSers are looking for a wider variety of types of shops. Most MSCs have only a few clients. Not all of the clients you have named are currently shopped, or not currently shopped in some regions. If you want to make some money shopping, you would be well advised to try sevral other types of shops. If all you want to do is to subsidise your casual dining habits, you will have very, very tough competition from tons of shoppers who have made long, good reps with those MSCs by doing a wide variety of assignments, so they may actually see early notices of coveted shops that more casual shoppers won't get.

Poor customer service? Don't get mad; get video.
Thanks for the reply. I might have given the wrong impression. I've got a pretty wide variety of shops lined up. USPS, a cell phone shop, Sam's Club, an oil change, a movie theater, bank, 2 yogurts, McD's, 5 guys. For shops where I'm making a small purchase or interacting with salesperson I'm not very concerned who the client is, but if I have to eat something, I'd rather it be something I enjoy, so I'm picky about what food shops I do.
