If they sent you a check without you signing up and performing a job for them, they are almost certainly a scam. Legitimate mystery shopping companies do not recruit new shoppers by sending out checks, and, almost exclusively, you must apply for a shopping assignment, perform the assignment, and complete the report before you are paid. Do a "google" search for One Source mystery shopping and you will see a lot of reports of scams. Good that you have not cashed the check. I'd run from this one!
Hi
I don't remember if i signed up for them or not and they wanted me to go to western union as well as walgreens and wal-mart i called the bank they said the account is good and there was enough money in the account to cash it but they wanted me to go to western union and wire money out but there was no info to were to send it to
and i have heard that if they send you to western union its a scam. thank you for your time and info and no i didnt cash it i talked to my bank manager about it and he told me it was a scam and that was good enough for me
but while i was down there a few checks from the same bank came in i hope they are putting a hold on it tell its verifid by the bank first\
again thank you
Hi
i guess they want me to take the money to western union but the money will just sit there so i can check it do a report on them and then they will send me more jobs and i will be taking the money out as i need it at least thats what the guy just explained to me
But has anyone worked for them ????
Cheassieya -

Did a quick google on this "One Source" - and cannot find any legitimate info on a "company" with the name "One Source".

Scroll down to the bottom of this page.

Under the last post, directly in the middle is a link called "OFFICIAL LIST OF MYSTERY SHOPPING COMPANIES" <---- CLICK THAT LINK.

Then sit back and start reading. Grab a cup of coffee or tea, soda or water, and read everything so you can learn how to get set up as a Mystery Shopper.

NO COMPANY - repeat - NO Company - is going to send you a check in the mail, tell you to "keep it" but "send back some to me". You START as a Shopper with $7.00, $10.00 type jobs and that is usually 30, 60, 90 days AFTER you do the job and submit a survey. Best way to figure it all out - again, READ the forums.

Good job for being suspicious!

Cheassieya, I hope that you have not deposited their check as it is 99.9% likely to be fraudulent. While your bank may give you credit for the funds within a few days, within a few weeks it will be returned to you and your account will have those funds backed out by the bank, even if it ovedraws your account and bounces all the other checks you have written. This IS a SCAM and is not at all how legitimate companies do business.
thank you all so very much i am so glad i am a member of this group you all have been a great help no it didn't get to the bank i called there bank and the better business place but haven't heard back from them as of yet they said they would check in to it for me and then i remembered this group and wrote to you all.
Thank you again so very much for your time and your help

Cheassieya, as soon as you hear the words "Western Union," run like hell, and laugh while doing it.

No one here has worked for them. If you cash the check, you will not be working for them either. You will just be scammed. When you cash the check and take it to Western Union, you will learn very shortly that the check is no good. You will owe the money because the money you sent via Western Union will be gone. They will not send you more jobs unless they send you another bad check to cash. The below comes from Ripoff Report:

nfogroup OneSource Mystery Shopping Mystery Shopping Check Scam New York, New York: BEWARE, INFOGROUP ONESOURCE MYSTERY SHOPPING this is a scam. They send you a check and say that you have been hired to do mystery shopping and want you to western union money back to them, DO NOT SEND MONEY TO THEM, the bank releases the funds then weeks later the check is returned as not able to collect funds leaving you responsible to repay the funds to your bank. Another one of the many check scams out there. Apparently they think we are stupid to fall for this.

Google One Source mystery shopping on the web and there are several more reports of people being scammed by One Source.
well the check is good and funds are there BBBBuuuuutttttt
the account the check is writen on is from a different company
cute huh !!
Don't part with a penny of those funds for a couple of weeks. The real company may identify the check as bogus when they see it, either as it clears or when they reconcile their account. They will in turn contact their bank and the check will bounce back at you.
Hi
what i didnt say is i am helping the company in any way i can.
I am smart i check theses things before i do anything
as i tell people there is a 5 day hold on it they don't care but what they don't know is it has to go through my checking way before my banks
I give myself 3 days to check into it in every way possable then if it pass's then it goes to my bank and my bank puts a hold on them and put it as a watch meaning possably a bad check and thats how i have it set up on perpuse they can do a few checks i can not my bank hasn't seen this check nor will they it didnt pass my checks it failed big time...........lol
with my checking and all of the members of this group it failed with out a doubt
we are all smart here they can't pull anything over on us meaning you and everyone else who has writen to me i may be new to this group but i am still smart but my smarts and all the smart people in this group I wont have the wool puled over my eyes
Thank you all very much
While I have never worked for or even heard of this company, it is a scam. I have been subjected to a variant of it in response to my ads on Craig's List for tutoring jobs, and even received a check or two which I did not cash. I discussed this with the FBI, and we came to the conclusion that where the scam artist wants you to Western Union part of the check to him or her, tell them you made a mistake and sent it by MoneyGram and then give them a phony number.
I'm not sure where the OP is getting the information about a 5 day hold and it really doesn't matter. It often takes several weeks before the banks find out checks are bogus and meanwhile the money CAN be released to the account holder.
