Interested in becoming a secret shopper

Hello my name is Albert Ennis. I have always been interested in being a secret shopper ever since my wife and I ran a coffee shop in Bridgeport, Ohio. I have no idea who or how to get started. I have ran into so many scams it isn't funny. I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. I have fortythree years experience in working the general public. I feel that as a secret shopper I could benefit the companies by my knowledge on how people exspect to be treated and the quality of the service they recieve. If anyone out there would be so kind as to show me which way to go and whAt companies to contact I would surely appreciate it. Thank you

Welcome to the forum! Let me suggest you start with the 'sticky' threads in the New Mystery Shopper section. A little time reading will get you a fair overview and some suggestions of companies with nationwide shops that are best to start with so you get the feel of whether this is for you. Shopping is not for everyone. Some find the reports too time consuming for the fees, or the wait for payment too long or miscellaneous other reasons.
Actually you have already pointed yourself in the right direction. This forum has a wealth of information at your fingertips.

At the bottom of the page is an "Official List of Mystery Shopping Companies." All of the companies are legitimate. It still doesn't mean they are all created equally. There is a link to discussion about the company next to each one's name. In addition there are a couple of sections such as the are for New Mystery Shoppers, that have "sticky notes" at the beginning. There you will find information on anything from getting started to equipment to advice on taxes. Settle in and start reading and you will be forewarned and forearmedwinking smiley

After you've read for a while and even started shopping, feel free to ask questions, the more specific the better as you will get responses from people who have probably had the same experience!

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

Obviously Flash and I were posting at the same time. As Flash is also more succinct, my post is a little after the factwinking smiley

Welcome Frankhomer! You've come to the right place to investigate the idea. We are all mystery shoppers ourselves (save some members who are staff of mystery-shop companies). It's a fun and profitable pastime. Read all you can here, and if you still have questions, just ask.

Welcome, I started this year after I retired and all it takes is a little reading and gumption. Start slow to see if it's for you and read up on the checks scam. I find it fills up my time and sometimes it's fun. The extra poker money is OK too, GOOD LUCK!!
