PO shops readypost

I was not reimbursed for the extra packing tape, even though I was not offered delivery confirmation or insurance, and the tape expense fell within the $11.05 maximum reimbursement.

As MDavis and tsk have said, there is a maximum per item for reimbursement. Postage is only covered for up to 2 lbs, and shipping up to 4 zones away. Delivery confirmation is covered for the $0.75 charge. Insurance covered for up to a $50 item. I cannot remember what the maximum reimbursement for a box is, but it's capped somewhere in the $3 range. You have that break down, both on your receipt and in your report (did you save a copy? print it out?).

Anything extra we purchase, as I understand it, is our own expense.

Per the guidelines, you get reimbursed UP TO:

$6.80 for the actual postage,
$.80 for delivery confirmation,
$1.85 for insurance and
$2.10 for the Ready Post item.
Thanks guys! The reimbursable postage was lower than I thought, the label was not covered and I spent a little more on the ready post package. So after everything I will make 6 dollars on my first shop....At least it's a start. Thanks for all the responses!!
Your instructions detail the breakout of the reimbursement, so much for postage, so much for the box, so much for DC, so much for insurance. I never took it that you could be over on one category and short on the other and it would wash out, I always took it that each component had its own limit.

Exactly ~ each component has it's own limit. If you go over the limit on one component, even if your total amount still is less than the maximum total reimbursement ~ it doesn't matter... you're only reimbursed the maximum for each component. I always spend a dollar-something extra on the postage part, because I always mail something to a friend in Zone 5. But that's OK. I only do Post Office shops when they're on a route with other shops, and (so far) they're extremely quick. The reports are duck soup, too.

StormCloud, the way I read the guidelines is you can purchase any readypost product, but if you exceeed the limit, you will not be reimbursed for the amount you went over.

Can't hurt. smiling smileysmiling smiley
@GMooney, that's how I read it, too; but I didn't want to take a chance and not be reimbursed or paid at all...

So... @Sojo, excellent idea. Why didn't I just do that? (Not being facetious, I really don't know why I didn't just think to do that! heh.)

I know for the prior MSC on these shops you could not buy the special/holiday/decorative boxes and envelopes. My guess is because they stand out and it would be more obvious to the clerk you have likely not all ready paid for it. I have just avoided those on these shops even still although I have not checked the guidelines on that matter.

That's a good point, Liz. Kind of raises the same points we've been talking about, that the purpose is to see if they charge you for it so we shouldn't be calling attention to it.

But I don't think the guidelines addressed that, although maybe they'll have new guidelines for December that mention not to get the holiday items??

I did one of these today and the clerk was sooooo helpful from the minute I walked in the door. The person was insistent I use the flat rate because the cost was less. I felt I needed to agree or look like an idiot and possibly give myself away. I sent an email explaining why I couldn't follow instructions but haven't gotten a response. As a consumer, the help would be excellent.

I'd be interested to hear how others would handle this.

I wonder if that's one of the things they want to know -- whether the clerk offers that helpful advice. I know for all the shops they tell us we should take the Express mail if it's cheaper than the priority, maybe the same logic applies here?

I usually seal it up ahead of time ASAP so they say, "Next time you should use the free Priority Mailer." Once the clerk got me when I asked for it behind the counter and insisted. I played stupid and just told her I wanted the one I picked out...duh...like I like to pay for things that I can get for free. You might have a problem with the MSC accepting the shop from what I've read. Please let us know how it turns out. Personally, it would make great sense to me with an explanation in the narrative, but I'm not the MSC and they want the Ready Post mailer.

I just got a response which stated I handled the situation correctly. And got a "9". I'll take it!

That's good to know if the situation should arise again. Thanks for sharing.

I just e-mailed my scheduler because I have one this week. This was the reply:

I asked, "Am I able to purchase the Holiday Ready Post mailers for this shop?"

She replied, "Yes, as long as it is a ReadyPost mailer, that will be fine."

Thanks, spaztck... I hadn't taken the time yet to look up the email & send one off.

It can be a challenge trying to stay on our script when the clerk doesn't follow THEIRS, LOL.

Ad libbing in a way that protects our purpose and then disclosing what happened and why is probably our best bet. If we protest too much the clerk will remember us too well.

But I truly hate to "ding" them when what they did was consumer-friendly and made sense but wasn't in the PO's best interest. They seem to be all about pushing things that cost the consumer more and make them a fatter profit than they think they should have. (I know, I know, it may not be a "profit," but they don't need to balance their budget on the backs of people who are also struggling in this economy.)
