Casino shops

Does anyone know if the overnight casino shops for HS Brands allow a guest to come?

The one I did in the past allowed for that ,but I would recommend asking them.
They allow guests on the shift visits. Why would they not allow them on the overnight visits?

If you do all the required observations and do them correctly and within the guidelines, it does not matter. You can still ask them though.
I can't imagine not doing one without a guest. The extra eyes and memory cells can be invaluable given the workload.

The GF hates casinos*, so I won't be signing up for any more jobs, even if I wanted to do one solo. I only visit them to play in poker tournaments, and there are only a handful that fit the budget/schedule.

*We're through Vegas in a couple of weeks on our way to a concert in PHX. Lotus Of Siam, arguably the best Thai restaurant in the country has relocated to Red Rocks, and we have dinner reservations. Haven't had their food in years and I am stoked.

Lotus of Siam is a shop in Vegas. I don't do it, but I see it posted along with the other nevada shops I do.

since you mentioned phoenix, you might want to check out the poker room at Talking Stick resort. Very nice, but plays on the bigger side. Based on some of your posts in the past, I don't think you want to play at that level.

Lone Butte (part of the Gila River indians) has a good poker room and pretty good bonuses too. I play there at least 1x per month.

There is still a location for Lotus of Siam on E Flamingo. I have been to Red Rock as well. I prefer Red Rock.
I'd choose Herbs & Rye (W. Sahara) over Lotus of Siam though. Lotus of Siam is pretty reasonable, even with alcohol.

Getting somewhat off topic, I would argue the arguably part of best Thai in the country. They used to have a Night + Market in the Hard Rock/Virgin for a short time, but even that one wasn't as good as the original in L.A., so Thai options in Vegas are somewhat limited.

We were on a hotel shop near Solvang recently and for our one meal outside of the resort, they suggested Nana Thai, which is right off the 101. It was some of the best Thai we have ever had in the U.S.

As for the OP; all of the casino outlets I have ever done allow a guest, but you need to always check the instructions and ASK if it's not clear. Not all of the hotels/casinos have the same requirements. I agree with @CoolMusic that I would never do one solo, though.

Did a multi-night true casino shop once on my own. Nervous af the whole time due to the money I had to lay out and the work load plus the opening stages of the best playoff NHL run of my life. Ended up rather drunk the whole time, they required a lot of drinks, and it worked out but...wow.
In a few months, I'll be traveling from LA to LV....was unsure whether to rent a a car and drive or fly (seems nutty given the short distance) or another poster mentioned elsewhere something called a FLIXBUS.....

As an east coast dweller with limited experience in that area, would surely appreciate your thoughts or suggestions.
Only adivice i can give now. If you get a taxi at the airport tell them to take the tunnel. Its several miles shorter/cheaper.

And I believe to mystery shop the casinos you have to be liscened in Nevada. Contact HS Brands as a start.
Thank you....my trip out west will be for fun & vacation, not work smiling smiley

Good to know. The Flamingo location would be much more convenient to our route.

Why the preference for the Red Rock location?

I have not been since they were in that funky strip mall.

All depends on the days you are driving. Heading into Vegas from SoCal on a Friday and returning on Sunday is to be avoided at all costs.

In agreement with @CoolMusic that you should not drive it on a Friday/Sunday. We often do Saturday to Monday trips and those are much easier than flying...but only if you are going round trip. If you are not driving back from Vegas they will charge you a ton for the car rental.

I have used Flixbus to/from Palm Springs and it was nice, but it depends what your Vegas plans are, and when you are visiting (weekend vs weekday).

At the most, it saves me 1 hour to fly. I can drive door to door to a hotel in Vegas in 4.5 hours, so consider a 30 minute drive to the airport, being there an hour before the flight, fly for another hour and then navigate the exits from LAS (which almost always require the shuttle) and you are a minimum of 3.5 hours to fly. Then you also have Uber/Taxi expenses to and from each airport, and around the city. Those are also higher on weekends due to traffic.

Driving frees you up, and usually costs less, but also be aware that many casinos now charge for parking

Back when used to shop Nevada, I could set up a shopping route from LA to Vegas and make a very profitable drive. There are still plenty of shops along the way in Barstow and the surrounding area you take as a non NV shopper.

@SteveSoCal

i've done some in Baker too.

Yeah....I used to make enough to pay for my fuel on the Vegas trips from the mid-way fast food in the past. I would still charge travel for the hotel shops in Vegas too.

My source is Jonathon Gold (RIP), the legendary food/restaurant critic, who proclaimed, "It was the best Thai meal I had ever eaten. I went back for the next four or five meals in a row, and I almost cried when I had to get on a plane back to New York."

My kinda guy...

Red Rock is easier to get a reservation. I sat at the bar at the one on E Flamingo. It felt very crowded. Service wasn't great, even at the bar. Red Rock is chill.

The neighborhood .... gosh, if you come from the north through da'hood, you can hear the theme song from Cops in your head. Super sketchy - and I have driven through Oakland, CA so... you know it's not safe. Cinderblock, chain link fences, etc.

Yeah, I knew the association with Jonathan (RIP) and the restaurant. They have been running their business based on that review for 25 years, though. And that is my argument; It was from a time when authentic Thai food was harder to come by.

While I do appreciate many of Jonathan's beloved restaurants in Los Angeles (and have shopped many of them), I think we just didn't always see eye-to-eye, (or tongue-to-tongue) on Thai food. Jonathan famously put Jitlada on the Thai culinary map of L.A. many years ago, and I never agreed with that either.

Jonathan later added Night + Market Song and Sapp Coffee Shop to his list, and those are currently two of my go-to locations at home, so I think his palate was also changing with time. Check out those restaurants if you are ever in L.A. and looking for great Thai food.

Both Lotus Of Siam and Jitlada are extremely authentic, but perhaps dated? The food scene in Bangkok has been evolving in recent years and the newer restaurants are more to my taste. I had a hotel shop in Bangkok last December and tried a bunch of new outlets there that blew me away.
