New and Looking for Good Advice

Hi! I'm Sue and I'm so happy to have found all of you! smiling smiley

I left my "real" full time job about a year ago to be home with my kids but one is now graduated and summer is over for the other so I need something to fill my time so I started Mystery Shopping. I've always wanted to try it!

I've only done a handful of jobs so far but I received no follow up questions from the reports I've submitted so I can only assume no news is good news and wait for payment. And it's been fun! Except for the reveal shop I accepted...that was really uncomfortable and I won't sign up for those again!

I signed up with about 5 companies...I live in a small town outside of a larger city (about an hours drive away) and I'm having trouble actually finding jobs I can complete reasonably. My thought is to sign up with more companies...any good ones anyone can recommend?

So glad that I found this forum...I may never get to sleep tonight reading all this great info!

Welcome Sue Bee! I, too, read myself to sleep after finding this forum. I'm with you - don't like reveals, and only infrequently do them. Definitely sign up with more companies - the more the better. In your reading, you'll find a list here in the Mystery Shopping Company Discussion section. Check out JobSlinger to see what's up in your area and maybe you'll find another few. Good luck and please, come back often and share.
The more you sign with the more jobs you'll find in your area. Some will not have jobs in your area, but many will. I must have registered with 80, but work monthly with about 6 now. Read the forum, and you'll get hints of good companies, there is Jobslinger and a list of our favorites on one of the threads. Enjoy and happy shopping!

Live consciously....
Hi Sue,

Welcome to shopping! I began shopping again a few months ago after taking a break for a few years due to work and time. So, basically I am starting over. One company I have had good luck with is Corporate Research International, I believe the website is www.mysteryshops.com

Have you considered doing merchandising? It's totally different, but steadier, and may pay better. A good site for this is Market Force (Certified Field Associate) www.marketforce.com

I too live in a smaller town, and finding companies that service this area has been daunting. I am signed up with lots of companies, because you just never know when them may have something in your area.

To get yourself established, and get your rating high, you may want to take some shops that don't pay much, just to show the company the quality of your work. It's like any other job, you have to prove yourself before you get the choice work.

If you need any help getting all the paperwork involved with shops organized, let me know. I have developed a method where I can keep it all together, at my fingertips, in one binder I can carry with me. I'll be happy to let you know what I've done so I don't tear my hair out trying to keep track of companies, shops, status, pay, etc.

Good luck shopping!
Debbie
For merchandising there is a substantial list of companies and information at NARMS.com
WELCOME to Mysetery shopping. I have been shopping for almost three years now and had mostly great experiences and a few uncomfortable ones but overall it has been a positive experience. Don't give up on the revealed shops so quick. If the results are negative it can be a little hard, but when you get to give a reward or just a great report-it is so great.

I am currently signed up with over 100 companies and I work regularly for about 20, but you have to find the ones that work best for your area and that can take some time and patience. Once you get established things will start to flow. If you are looking to make some good money consider the financial shops and apartment shops-they pay much better, but of course they require more work on the report end.

Good luck and hang in there because getting established sure doesn't happen overnight-three years and I am still working on it.
