Hello

Hi Everyone!

I've been getting a lot of spam-type emails for mystery shopping and wanted to see if they actually work and if you really need to pay for the information. From what I've gathered on this site, it's possible to find out about the jobs in other ways.

I've owned and operated my own retail store for 35 years until retiring last year. I think I would be good at shopping other stores, since I know what customer service, etc. requires. Any hints for me to get started would be appreciated. Thanks advance for your help!

Hello Kit, you've come to the right place. You don't need to pay to get signed up to shop. You can sign up for free with the companies you'll find by clicking the blue link at the bottom of this page. Once you are set up with a company, you can go on their job board to find assignments you'll apply for, or they'll send you an email.

Most jobs will pay between $8 and $15 and reputable companies will not send you money in advance. Money sent in advance is a scam.

If you have questions, ask here and someone will give you an answer. This forum is a wealth of information which is already posted, so the more you read the more you know. Welcome.

No, you definately do not pay anything in advance. You also don't do jobs where they send you checks in advance. Both of those are scams. MDavis is right, start signing up with the shops at the bottom but a couple of good ones to get you started are Corporate Research, Bestmark, Second-to-Non, Measure Consumer Perspectives. Just put the company name in the Google search bar and add 'mystery shop' after and it will bring them right up.

I think mystery shopping is an excellent occupation for a retired person. You choose your own hours, how much you want to work and how much you want to earn. Good luck with your new occupation!
