New to Mystery shopping in every sense of the word in MI

I decided to try something new to augment my income, so, here i am. I currently work for a big box retailer and the changes the corporation is forcing upon the associates are getting a bit much so it's time for me to move on.
This is the first step (plan A). I'm still masterminding the rest (plans b, c, d...).

I'm here to learn and decide if this is for me or not.

Welcome, roadrunner, lots of good info here......
Welcome to the forum, roadrunner. As you read around I think you will find that relatively few folks do this as a full time job. As an Independent Contractor you are running your own small business, which means you are not being provided any benefits or cost sharing on your FICA (self employment tax). Depending on what plans b, c, d . . . are, this could be a useful add on.

It takes a while to get established as a mystery shopper. How much work is available will depend on where you are, how much competition there is in your area, how many companies you are registered with and how far you are willing to travel.
Another thing to keep in mind, there is no such thing as a steady paycheck in order to plan bill paying. One month you may make twice what you do now, the next less than half. Unless your monthly bills are minimal or you are extremely disciplined you may have problems meeting your obligations on time. While the landlord or the phone company may allow you to be late now and again it won't stop them from also charging you fees.

When you work for one employer it's a rare thing to have your pay be late or incorrect and when it is they will correct it quickly. In mystery shopping you are just a vendor working with dozens and dozens of companies. If you are expecting $200 on the 15th you may not get it until the 20th If they paid you only $100 you may have to wait until the following month's pay cycle before it is corrected.

There are many, many things to take into consideration before even thinking about giving up your day jobwinking smiley

Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not pie.

Never try to teach a pig to sing. It's a waste of your time and it really annoys the pig.
I am in OH, How many MSCs are you listed with.
Roadrunner - No matter how bad your day job is, don't quit thinking you can make a living doing this. Not gonna happen. Sorry. It would take years to build up to an adequate income, and it would be harder than you could imagine.
